Philip Seymour Hoffman to Take On Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Osar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast to play Plutarch Heavensbee, Head Gamemaker for The Hunger Games, studio Lionsgate said. Hoffman recently wrapped his gig playing Willy Loman on Broadway in the revival of Death of a Salesman , which earned him a Tony Award nomination. He will next been seen in Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master and indie film A Late Quartet , also starring Catherine Keener and Christopher Walken. The second installment of The Hunger Games franchise is based on Suzanne Collins’ smash hit series of novels that have sold 36 million copies in the U.S. Francis Lawrence will direct the latest pic, which also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Jena Malone, Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci. Lionsgate released its latest synopsis of the film, which it will release November 22nd: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark.   Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts.  Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.  Lionsgate appears to be going all the way with The Hunger Games series, and why not? The first one has made over $404 million in the U.S. alone. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay is likely to follow Catching Fire and a fourth installment may follow.

Black Keys Tell Story Behind The Other ‘Gold On The Ceiling’ Video

The duo shot a clip with director Harmony Korine. And yes, it’s plenty weird. By James Montgomery The Black Keys Photo: MTV News By now, you’ve probably seen the Black Keys ‘ new video for “Gold on the Ceiling,” which premiered Monday on MTV and is a marked departure from the band’s previous efforts, which were heavy on stuff like dancing security guards and Todd Bridges cameos . Mostly because it’s a live clip, of course. Still, that doesn’t mean the ‘Keys didn’t want their latest video to follow in the WTF-worthy tradition of their previous. In fact, they actually shot a second video for the song, one directed by oddball auteur Harmony Korine. And, as they told MTV News immediately following the “Gold on the Ceiling” premiere, that never-before-seen clip is most certainly a Harmony Korine production. “We did a video with Harmony, but it’s not really for ‘Gold on the Ceiling,'” frontman Dan Auerbach said. “Well, it is, sort of,” drummer Patrick Carney added. “It’s for whatever music we want to put to it. Pretty much we just let Harmony get self-indulgent, do his thing,” Auerbach continued. “Pat and I are dressed up like babies, in onesies, and we’re in Baby Bj

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson also reveal to MTV News who they would have liked to play if not Katiss and Peeta. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence Photo: MTV News Another day, another juicy segment of our interview with the cast of “The Hunger Games” to roll out and examine. Tuesday’s (February 7) installment has a slight caveat, however. For those who have yet to read Suzanne Collins’ book “Catching Fire” — the follow-up to “The Hunger Games” — please take this as a friendly warning that the proceeding comments from stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson veer heavily into spoiler territory for the tentatively planned big-screen sequel. When MTV News caught up with Lawrence and Hutcherson recently, we asked them what they hope to see in a sequel. Lawrence quickly brought up a very big step in the relationship between Katniss and Peeta. “We get married!” the actress exclaimed, looking at Hutcherson and pointing to her ring finger with girlish enthusiasm. “[It’s] very exciting,” Hutcherson said, though we detected a bit of hesitation in his voice. Lawrence revealed that she did the “ring finger move” to Hutcherson whenever she wanted to annoy him on set. “God, I sound really annoying whenever I talk about myself in the past,” she admitted. The Oscar nominee then apologized to Hutcherson, who seemed genuinely entertained by her commentary. Looking even further ahead, past “Catching Fire,” we asked about talk that the third book might be split into two films. “It’s always hard, every time you convert a novel into movies, because you have to cut so much out,” Lawrence said. “[So], in a weird way it’s kind of a relief because you get to keep everything in there. It is a lot more work [to shoot four films] and we’ll probably do them back-to-back.” Finally, we asked the two stars if they had to play another “Hunger Games” character besides their own which they would choose. “I would probably say President Snow,” Hutcherson said. “If I were President Snow, I could make some changes and give some power back to the people.” “Well, now I’m left with a goat,” Jennifer joked of the dwindling character options. “Umm.” “Effie has great style,” Hutcherson offered. “Effie! That’s it,” Lawrence agreed about the pink-haired District 12 escort played by Elizabeth Banks. “God, yeah Effie. Thanks!” Who would you have cast Jennifer and Josh as in “The Hunger Games,” besides Katniss and Peeta? Tell us in the comments!
