Miley Cyrus has taken a break from Twerking to shower The Disney Channel with praise. In response to the news – reported last week by TV Guide – that Good Luck Charlie will introduce a character with lesbian parents on its fourth season, Cyrus has taken to Twitter in shock and awe. “is this true?!?!?! I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation,” Cyrus wrote yesterday. “They control…so much of what kids think! Life isn’t bright sets & wardrobe & kids becoming superstars! This is INSPIRING” Cyrus has long been an advocate of gay and lesbian rights. She has an equal sign tattooed on her finger and wrote an editorial last year in defense of gay marriage . Anticipating backlash over its casting, meanwhile, a Disney Channel spokesperson told TV Guide in a statement: “This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors…Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.”
