Young Icon Yara Shahidi Is Going To Harvard Alongside First Daughter Malia Obama

Image via WENN/Getty/Josiah Kamau Yara Shahidi Announces That She Will Be Attending Harvard University With amazing grades, an superstar personality and a recommendation letter from First Lady Michelle Obama, it was no surprise that Yara Shahidi was practically begged for her attendance by every school she applied to last year. But now Yara has made her choice and her new Ivy League freshman class is about to get a serious raise in profile. Yara will enter into Harvard University along side Barack and Michelle’s kid, Malia Obama. This sounds like an amazing movie that #BlackFilmTwitter would kidnap Ava Duvernay and force her to direct. Yara had previously told PEOPLE that just like Malia, she would be deferring a year so that she can continue to work: “I know when Malia Obama announced [she was deferring], she got a lot of slack, but I feel like what’s interesting is I know so many people that are deferring. It’s more than to just roam around or just sit down and stare at a wall, but it will also give me an opportunity to work,” Shahidi says. “I’ve been working more than half of my life and that’s always been balanced with school and all of the other responsibilities, so to have a year to focus on work and to focus on specified interests will be nice before I pick a career and choose what I want to study and my life path.” Can you imagine these two in college together? Roomies?? Congrats!

Kristen Wiig, Judd Apatow and Co. Offer 9 Things You Didn’t Know About Bridesmaids

For the first time since Bridesmaids premiered this past spring, the comedy’s filmmakers and cast gathered last night in Hollywood for a special Screen Actors Guild Awards screening of their surprise box office smash. Afterward, Judd Apatow (who executive produced the film) moderated a Q&A panel comprised of stars Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy and Wendi McLendon-Covey as well as Annie Mumolo, who co-wrote the screenplay with Wiig. What transpired was an entertaining discussion about the movie “that changed female comedy.” The most exciting revelations follow.

Ralph Fiennes Hates Twitter, Is Kinda Right

Ralph Fiennes, honored at the BFI London Film Festival awards for his directorial debut — the Shakespeare adaptation Coriolanus — does not think in sound bites of 140 words or less. ‘We’re in a world of truncated sentences, soundbites and Twitter… [Language] is being eroded — it’s changing. Our expressiveness and our ease with some words is being diluted so that the sentence with more than one clause is a problem for us, and the word of more than two syllables is a problem for us.” So hey, kids — go see Coriolanus next January and expand your (five syllables!) vo-ca-bu-la-ry! We Need to Talk About Kevin Wins Big in London

Congrats to Lynne Ramsay, Tilda Swinton and the rest of Team We Need to Talk About Kevin , which knocked off the awards-y likes of The Descendants , The Artist and Shame to emerge as best in show at this year’s BFI London Film Festival. “We were struck by the sheer panache displayed by these great storytellers,” said jury chief John Madden. “In the end, we were simply bowled over by one film, a sublime, uncompromising tale of the torment that can stand in the place of love.” Yowza! Sounds like my Friday nights. Someone give me a trophy! [ THR ]
