TV animation works in mysterious ways — Fox’s freshman toon The Cleveland Show was renewed for a second season before the first began airing. Now the Family Guy spinoff’s been picked up for a full third season . Production cycles for animated series are long, so early renewals are the only ways networks can deal with them efficiently.
