Artie Lange support site launches, aims to reduce suicide rates

In light of comedian Artie Lange’s recent suicide attempt and current recovery, a site dedicated to supporting the ailing star has launched. WeLoveYouArtie.ning.com is a simple site where fans can create a profile, invite others and upload their own video or written well wishes. The creator of the site wishes to remain anonymous but had this to say to Punchline Magazine : Artie Lange has a beautiful soul and his comedy has put smiles on millions of faces for years. We want him to know that while we can’t understand the inner turmoil he is enduring, we love him so much and we’re all here to offer our unconditional love and support to him in his recovery. If Artie could learn to love himself just a small fraction of how much we love him, we believe he’ll be around for generations to come. In addition to offering Lange support, the site has also charged itself with promoting the idea of saving 10,000 lives, one-third of the suicides per year. “Artie is one of ballsiest performers of all time. Taking his cue, our goal is not only to help our dear friend but, to wipe out US suicides by 1/3rd in 2010. We also hope to help those in our own community who are fighting self-destruction,” the site creator says. “One of the greatest gifts you can offer someone is revealing to them their true gifts and talents. Another is revealing to someone all the reasons why they should love themselves as much as you do.” For more info, check out the Artie support site here .

Robert Schimmel Discusses Cancer with Wife Melissa Schimmel on Howard Stern

Stand-up comedian Robert Schimmel talked with Howard Stern this morning about life and his new book, ” Cancer on $5 a Day (chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life “. Schimmel has a rabid following and pulls no punches when it comes to his views on life.  He’s been hitting the talk show circuit over the past several days and the Howard Stern Show was another leg in that journey. The comedian has had a troubled and complex history. In 1998, Schimmel suffered a heart attack.  Then in June of 2000, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. His treatments included chemotherapy and often led to long stays in the hospital. During one such session, his daughter Jessica Schimmel brought her boss, Melissa, to visit him.  The two then started an unlikely May-December relationship. Schimmel’s cancer went into remission and he decided to return to his wife Vicki Schimmel and break things off with with Melissa. However, Schimmel later returned to Melissa, leading to the birth of their child. Robert then divorced Vicki and got married to his wife, Melissa Schimmel . Today, in his appearance with Stern, Schimmel announced that he has cirrhosis.  This condition resulted from a blood transfusion that was performed while he was in the Air Force.  The cirrhosis has now progressed to the point where he must wait for a donated liver. Schimmel’s latest book is available now .
