Source: Timothy Norris / Getty Rapper Young Thug was arrested Brookhaven, Georgia on Sept. 24th for receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana with intent and possession of a schedule II controlled substance determined to be cocaine. According to authorities the rapper was pulled over in his 2016 Mercedes Benz Maybach because of the tints on his windows. When police approached the vehicle they said to have smell a strong odor of marijuana and began to search the vehicle. Once searched, officers found several items of narcotics and pills, including two ounces of marijuana, some liquid codeine as well as two firearms and $50,000 in cash. WELP! Black People Are Being Pushed Out Of Atlanta” Billboard An anti-gentrification billboard is making national headlines. On Atlanta’s I-285 highway, drivers are seeing a billboard that reads, “Black people are being pushed out of Atlanta”—which is indeed true. In addition to the message, however, there’s a deeper meaning behind it. The billboard is actually advertising a documentary from Black Channel Films. The doc is called “Gentrified” and it’s said to explore “the unspoken ethnic component behind the most devastating socioeconomic movement in American society today.” According to The AJC , the film was shown at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Shrine of the Black Madonna Cultural Center and Bookstore in Atlanta. It was also followed by a Q&A with Mary Gill of WAOK 1380 AM. The documentary will also be shown in New York, Chicago, London, Detroit, Houston and Washington D.C. The Pips Member William Guest Dies From Congestive Heart Failure Sad news for the soul music community… William Guest, a member of Gladys Knight And The Pips has passed away at age 74. According to AP reports : Guest’s sister-in-law, Dhyana Ziegler, said he died Thursday in Detroit of congestive heart failure. Guest performed throughout the lifespan of the Grammy-winning group from 1953 to 1989. He performed background vocals on hits such as “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and “Midnight Train to Georgia.” “My heart is broken, but I know his legacy will live on,” said Guest’s daughter, Monique Guest, in a statement. Gladys Knight and the Pips were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Apollo Hall of Fame in 2006. After the group ended, Guest and another member, the late Edward Patten, formed a production company. Guest later served as CEO of Crew Records. He released his autobiography “Midnight Train From Georgia: A Pips Journey” in 2013 with Ziegler. “I am so glad we finished the book, so his wonderful life and legacy will be celebrated throughout eternity,” Ziegler said. “I loved my brother so much.” Our thoughts and prayers go out to Guests loved ones.
