Andrea Mitchell, NBC Journalist, Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Andrea Mitchell, NBC’s Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent, revealed today on Andrea Mitchell Reports: she has breast cancer. “Mine was discovered during my annual screening just a short time ago,” the 64-year old said on her show. “Luckily for me, I am one of the fortunate ones; we discovered it in the earliest stage, it hadn’t spread, and I’m already back at work with a terrific prognosis.” Approximately one in eight women in America will be diagnosed with this form of cancer in their lifetime, a fact that has prompted Mitchell to send this message to viewers: “I’m looking at this as another of life’s lessons. For you women out there and the men who love you, screening matters. Do it. This disease can be completely curable if you find it at the right time.” [Photo: WENN.com]
