Slender Man: Internet Meme Results in Stabbing of 12 Year Old Girl

Bizarre news out of Wisconsin today, as two 12-year-old girls stabbed a classmate as a result of their obsession with a popular Internet meme. “Slender Man” is character created by Eric Knudsen that first appeared on the comedy website Something Awful in 2009. Slender Man Stabbing Report The character was meant to be a sort of Blair Witch-style prank on the Internet, and fans were asked to manipulate photographs, accompany them with made-up backstories and post them on websites as though they were real. Sadly, the unnamed pre-teens in Waukesha, Wisconsin didn’t understand that the Slender Man story was intended to be a sort of crowd-sourced work of fiction. When they were questioned by police after stabbing their friend 19 times, the girls reportedly stated that they hoped to commit a murder in hopes of becoming “proxies” or acolytes of Slender Man. The girls are now being held in a juvenile detention center and will reportedly be charged as adults. The attorney for one of the girls has stated that his client is mentally ill, and unable to distinguish fantasy from reality.  Despite being left in the woods to die, the victim of the stabbing is expected to recover.

Random Ridiculousness: These Elf Crazed Freaks Are Paying Hundreds Of Dollars For Ear Sculpting!!!

Would you pay money to look like this? PERMANENTLY! Apparently the hot new ish is body modification… to the ears: It’s a trend that points back to the days of Mr. Spock on “Star Trek.” ABC’s “Good Morning America” reports that some young sci-fi fans in Arizona are taking their obsession with the show to a new level, actually cutting open the tips of their ears and having the cartilage sculpted into tiny, elf-inspired points. Body modification artist Steve Haworth of Phoenix told ABC he’s noticed more people looking to channel their inner elves, coming to him to perform the irreversible procedure, which costs $600. “There’s a lot of people out there who have an inner vision of themselves and they want to express that to the world around them,” Haworth told ABC. “I’m very happy to be an artist that can provide that kind of work.” But pursuing an impish likeness can be dangerous business. Some doctors warn that sculpting cartilage can lead to ear deformities and dangerous infections that can destroy ears within a matter of days, ABC reported. Unlike tattoos and piercings, the procedure is also irreversible, not to mention painful. Haworth, who’s not a licensed doctor, is not allowed to administer anesthesia while he works. He said he’ll only do the surgery on people over 18. This is just nuts. It’s like the Halloween costume you can never take off!!! Who does that? Source
