Jay-Z and Beyonce Trademark Blue Ivy’s Name

The Washington Post reports that Jay Z and Beyonce’  have filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect Blue Ivy ‘s name. The trademark will reserve her name for future use of items like “baby carriages, baby cosmetics and diaper bags.” Multiple applications for various trademarks of Blue Ivy’s name were submitted just days after her birth, so Jay and Bey were prompted by their legal team to trademark their daughter’s name. Fashion designer Joseph Mbeh submitted an application to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” on Jan. 11. Then on Jan. 20, another application for “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” was submitted, this time to be used to sell a line of fragrances. Both filings have since been denied. Officials have said since the name belongs to a “very famous infant” that consumers would falsely assume any products with her name were approved by the celebrity parents.
