At HIFF: Matthew Broderick and Alec Baldwin Reflect on Brando, Hughes, Career Misfires and More

Don’t let the audience hijinks fool you: This weekend’s chat between Matthew Broderick and Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons Film Festival gave the two old acting chums almost a full hour to catch up — often hilariously so, with Saturday’s ostensible tribute to Broderick generally resulting in a freewheeling gab session between the guys.

Movieline’s New Twitter Hero is… Ellen Barkin

Thank your lucky stars for Twitter, because the 140-character fun machine just acquainted us with an unforeseen side of Ellen Barkin — the trash-talkin’, fast-tweetin’, Bronx-lovin’ “Twitta bitch.” The 57-year-old Diner / Switch actress joined Twitter only a couple days ago, and she’s already established herself as its new empress. If you thought Carrie Fisher was a dynamo on Twitter, you haven’t seen anything yet. Dig these effin’ amazing tweets.

The Devil Inside Trailer: Just the Most Horrifying 911 Call Ever!

William Brent Bell’s creepy thriller The Devil Inside doesn’t come out until January, but it’s new trailer should keep you interested and freaked out until then. There are no images in it, but the audio is jarring enough to put disturbing pictures in your head. At the very least, it will erase your “Devil Inside” associations with the oeuvre of INXS. Click through for darkest 911 call in some time.

At HIFF: Alec Baldwin and Matthew Broderick Chat Nearly Derailed by Raving Fan

“Matthew, could you please let us know how you went about meeting your wife?” “Sure,” said Matthew Broderick. “Right after I’m assassinated.” Such was the mood late this afternoon at Guild Hall, where, at arguably the Hamptons Film Festival’s most anticipated event, Broderick sat for a conversation with his old friend and peer Alec Baldwin. Or mostly conversation, anyway, until the wild interruption from the balcony that nearly derailed a perfectly delightful chat about humble beginnings, John Hughes. Marlon Brando, Producers -mania, botched films and so much more.

Friday Box Office: Let’s Give Footloose a Hand!

I’m squeaking and bopping like Deniece Williams, because the new Footloose is both critically hailed and a box office success. Kenny Wormald’s big debut tops the Friday countdown, leading all newcomers by a significant margin — especially the not-so- Big Year .

Talkback: Which Twilight Zone Episode Should Become a Feature Film?

Congrats to Matt Reeves, the Cloverfield director who just landed the upcoming Twilight Zone movie. Hopefully it’ll be less of an apocalyptic disaster than the 1983 movie , but I’m already feeling optimistic: Reeves is also handling the Frankenstein-rejiggering His Dark Materials , which means he has a strong grasp on the eerie and far-out. Since we know the new Twilight Zone will not be a series of episodes like the first movie, I say we suggest possible episodes of the real series for writer Jason Rothenberg to adapt. What’s your favorite?

The Avengers Trailer Has Been Downloaded 10 Million Times

This pat in the back just in from Marvel Studios: The first trailer for The Avengers was “downloaded over 10 million times in its first 24 hours” from iTunes alone upon its debut this week. 10 million downloads. In a day. That’s got to also be the record for the most people listening to Nine Inch Nails (whose musical stylings played under shots of ScarJo pondering the tightness of her Black Widow costume, etc.) at the same time. Congrats! Now, to convert those 10 million trailer-watchers into opening day ticket-buyers… [Press release]

This Means War Trailer: See Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine in a Sexy Spy Love Triangle

What if Hollywood reformatted the plot of Mr. & Mrs. Smith from he-spy vs. she-spy to be he-spy vs. he-spy over the same she? Then you would have This Means War , the upcoming action comedy from McG which stars Tom Hardy (with his real accent!) and Chris Pine as two secret agents who go head-to-head after learning they are dating the same woman, played by Reese Witherspoon. Oh, and did I mention that This Means War also marks Chelsea Handler’s live action blockbuster debut?
