Charles Barkley: Gay Players Were on My Teams, Are on Everyone’s Teams!

Jason Collins became the first openly homosexual athlete in major American team sports when he came out as gay in Sports Illustrated last month. To hear Charles Barkley tell it, the operative word is “openly.” Charles Barkley on Jason Collins The response to Collins’ decision has been overwhelmingly positive, but the concept of playing with a gay player is still a major talking point in sports. Barkley said on The Dan Patrick Show that he has played with 3-4 gay men during his 16-year career, and those are just the players he knows about. The NBA Hall of Famer did not reveal the athletes in question. During the interview, Barkley noted that Collins himself has been on six teams, and that everyone who has played in the NBA has had a gay teammate. “I think it’s a huge deal,” Barkley added of Collins’ decision to come out on Monday night during TNT’s Inside The NBA . “I’m really excited for Jason.” What’s your reaction to Collins’ announcement?   Good for him!
