Charles Barkley: Gay Players Were on My Teams, Are on Everyone’s Teams!

Jason Collins became the first openly homosexual athlete in major American team sports when he came out as gay in Sports Illustrated last month. To hear Charles Barkley tell it, the operative word is “openly.” Charles Barkley on Jason Collins The response to Collins’ decision has been overwhelmingly positive, but the concept of playing with a gay player is still a major talking point in sports. Barkley said on The Dan Patrick Show that he has played with 3-4 gay men during his 16-year career, and those are just the players he knows about. The NBA Hall of Famer did not reveal the athletes in question. During the interview, Barkley noted that Collins himself has been on six teams, and that everyone who has played in the NBA has had a gay teammate. “I think it’s a huge deal,” Barkley added of Collins’ decision to come out on Monday night during TNT’s Inside The NBA . “I’m really excited for Jason.” What’s your reaction to Collins’ announcement?   Good for him! Robert Downey Jr. and Wife: Expecting First Child!

The headline above says it all, but the exciting news is worth repeating: Robert Downey Jr. and wife Susan Downey are expecting their first child together! The couple wed in 2005, while the Oscar nominee has a 17-year old son from his first marriage to Deborah Falconer. The baby is due in early 2012. Oscar De La Hoya Admits to Cocaine Use, Thoughts of Suicide

In a new interview with Univision, former boxer Oscar De La Hoya has opened up about the depth of his personal issues, which culminated this spring in a trip to rehab . “Rock bottom was recently,” De La Hoya said, according to an English-language transcript provided by the network. “Within couple of years, just thinking if my life was even worth it. I don’t have the strength, I don’t have the courage to take my own life but I was thinking about it.” De La Hoya says he’s been sober for three months and admits, yes, he was unfaithful to his wife. However: “We are obviously not talking a Tiger Woods here.” Known as The Golden Boy during his time in the ring, De La Hoya retired in 2009 after a 16-year career and 10 world titles. He’s worked as a promoter in the sport since. “There were drugs, my drug of choice was cocaine and alcohol. Cocaine was recent. The last 2 years, last 2 1/2 years and I depended more in the alcohol than the cocaine,” De La Hoya said. “It took me to a place where I felt safe, it took me to a place where I felt as if nobody can say anything to me, it took me to a place where I just can reach out and grab my mom.” The athlete says he’s joined Alcoholic Anonymous.
