Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal are in talks to join the cast of Into the Woods . The film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Steven Sondheim. Into the Woods follows a baker and his wife as they seek a witch in order to reverse an infertility curse she put on them. Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep are already attached to star, presumably as the Baker and the Witch, respectively. Rob Marshall, who is a seasoned adapter of stage musicals to screen, will direct.
