An earthquake in central Afghanistan killed at leasr 7 people and injured 70 others early Monday morning. The quake, was measured by the U.S. Geological Survey at an alarming 5.3 magnitude, hit about 1 a.m. (4:30 p.m. Sunday ET) and reached three districts in Samangan province, between capital Kabul and the northern city of Mazar-i Sharif. In an interview of the assistant governor Hajji Ghulam Sakhi Baghlani, he stated that the villages were destroyed and the local routes were damaged from the slipping mountain rocks. He also mentioned that there may be an increase in the death toll. It is also possible that there may be people under the debris from fallen houses.
