A 5.0 magnitude earthquake hit the southern Iranian province of Hormozgan. The quake struck at 3:28am (22:58 GMT) Tuesday near the town of Rooydar. There were no casualties or major damages reported from the incident. Iran, including the capital of Tehran, sits astride several major fault lines in the earth’s crust, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which were devastating.
