Jennie Finch Recalls Her ‘Shiny’ ’62 Impala On ‘When I Was 17’

For pro softball player Jennie Finch, it was where she and her friends felt the most cool. “Back when I was 17, I got the honor of driving our 1962 Chevy Impala,” Finch said of the family car in the new episode of “When I Was 17,” airing Saturday at 11 a.m. “It was completely restored. My dad did it all himself. It was sky blue. Chrome was shiny. The rims were shiny.” It wasn’t just Finch who felt powerful hopping into that Chevy. Her pal Brianna also thought they were pretty fresh in the ride. “We kind of knew it was awesome, just mainly because of all the attention we got in it,” Brianna recalled of their crew in the episode. Jennie admitted she basked in all the attention her Impala got her from the California boys she grew up with. “All the guys at school would be like, ‘Let me ride in your car. Let me check out your car,’ ” she said. “All my friends had their arms out the windows, thinking we were hard-core, rocking in our 1962 Chevy Impala.” On Saturday’s show, Drake talks about how he was an “eBay guru” when he was 17. “I used to call him up and be like, ‘Yo, what are you doing?,’ ” childhood friend Niko recalls during the episode. “And he’d be like, ‘Shopping on eBay.’ ” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Drake, Queen Latifah and Jennie Finch — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.
