Toni Braxton suffered a major wardrobe malfunction last August. But now the singer is revealing a part of herself that cuts deeper than any exposed butt crack: In a new memoir, Braxton opens up about a past abortion and how that decision has significantly affected her present and her future. The artist says God gave her 11-year-old son, Diezel, autism as punishment for his mother having an abortion over a decade ago. Writes Braxton of struggling with the choice to terminate her pregnancy back in the day: “I was suddenly faced with a choice I’d never thought I’d have to make. Amid my major misgivings about abortion, I eventually made the gut-wrenching decision.” She goes on to add: “In my heart, I believed I had taken a life – an action that I thought God might one day punish me for… My initial rage was quickly followed by another strong emotion: guilt. I knew I’d taken a life… I believed God’s payback was to give my son autism.” Raised in a religious household, Braxton details how she was forced to memorize 26 scriptures per week and to focus on religious studies over regular school work. Titled “Unbreak My Heart,” the book also covers Braxton’s struggles through a pair of bankruptcies and a recent health scare, having been hospitalized in 2012 with Lupus complications .
