50 Cent Calls Onetime Foe Cam’ron ‘A Good Guy’

‘I don’t wake up or go to sleep feeling like I hate Cam’ron,’ Fif tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Josh Horowitz 50 Cent Photo: Tiffany Rose/ WireImage 50 Cent has had a go at it with more than a few of his fellow rappers, from his scathing beef with Ja Rule to his venomous war of words with Fat Joe. One clash that didn’t escalate, however, was when the G-Unit leader and Cam’ron tossed barbs at each other. According to 50, their dispute wasn’t nearly as personal as it seemed. In fact, he told MTV News that the Diplomats leader was “a good guy.” “What me and Cam’ron had is music,” 50 said, characterizing their rift as a challenge to be the pre-eminent MC. “It’s the competitive nature of the art form. In hip-hop, there’s always been battling. It’s a part of it. I don’t wake up or go to sleep feeling like I hate Cam’ron. He’s a good guy.” Just last week, Cam’ron talked to MTV News about 50 and also revealed that things between them are solid. “I don’t have no problem with 50,” Cam told Sway during “RapFix Live.” “50 cool with me. “It was good for hip-hop,” he continued. “We had our little hip-hop beef or whatever you wanna call it, but ain’t no problem. Jim and Juelz do stuff with 50 and they camp all the time. I don’t have a problem with 50 at all. It is what it is. We had our little discrepancy, and we moved on from it.” Over the summer, their prot

Eminem Plays Surprise Set At Red Bull EmSee Contest In New York

Em took the Bowery Ballroom stage for three songs during Road to 8 Mile rap battle. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem (file) Photo: Chelsea Lauren/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Looks like the Jimmy B-Rabbit inside of Eminem is still alive. The Detroit rapper seemed to channel the scrappy character he played in his breakout movie role early Tuesday morning (June 22) as he took to the stage for a surprise performance during the Red Bull EmSee : The Road to 8 Mile freestyle rap battle. Just hours earlier, he had been on the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theater for a taping of Jay-Z’s appearance on the “Late Show With David Letterman.” Decked out in jeans, a white T-shirt, black, zip-up hoodie and black military cap, Em hit the stage shortly after midnight with a burst of furious rhymes. The Shady One delivered a rapid succession of rhymes to Drake’s “Over” before the DJ, the Alchemist, flipped the record to Lloyd Banks’ “Beamer, Benz or Bentley.” The intimate audience at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom — a space with a capacity of under 600 — were cheering wildly for Em and D-12’s Mr. Porter. Eminem quickly segued into “On Fire” and “Won’t Back Down,” from his new album, Recovery, which dropped on Monday. On the latter (without collaborator Pink), he was particularly energetic, delivering the rousing lyrics with added urgency. “Listen, garden tool/ Don’t make me introduce you to my power tool/ You know the f—ing drill,” Em rapped. “How you douche bags feel?/ Knowing you’re disposable, Summer’s Eve, Massengill.” After the third song, Eminem ended his brief set and directly addressed the crowd, hinting that their support was what carried him through recovery from his well-documented drug dependency. “New York, on some real sh–, we didn’t get time to rehearse this, but we wanted to come out for y’all,” he said. “If it wasn’t for y’all, I wouldn’t even be here. Thank you to each and every one of y’all. We love you. Peace.” Chants of “encore” soon filled the venue, but the rapper was gone. “Thanks to everyone for coming out to the Redbull EmSee battle,” he tweeted later. “I appreciate all the love New York. Yes, I’m really typing this.” Prior to Eminem’s set, underground supergroup Slaughterhouse performed. Royce Da 5’9″, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I all drew cheers with their various slick rhymes. Royce, a fellow Detroit MC and longtime Em affiliate, spoke to the crowd about the collective’s ongoing negotiations with Shady Records, where the four hope to sign after releasing last summer’s group debut via E1 Entertainment. “It’s Shady for life,” he told the crowd. The event was hosted by Shade 45 morning-show host Angela Yee and D.R.E.S. Tha Beatnik. The night featured a three-round battle, judged by producers Just Blaze and the Alchemist, along with legendary freestyle rapper Craig G. Rapper DNA scored the biggest reaction from the crowd with his boastful rhymes and eventually earned the win. The winners of Red Bull EmSee contests across the country will battle at the finals in Detroit, where Em himself made his name as a lyrical mudslinger. Lloyd Banks Says ‘Beamer, Benz Or Bentley’ Is One Of Many Hits To Come

‘I’mma rap my ass off this year. I’m still in that zone,’ G-Unit rapper says. By Shaheem Reid Lloyd Banks Photo: MTV News “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” is Lloyd Banks’ fastest rising single on radio since 2004’s “On Fire.” DJs haven’t just been playing it, they’ve been testifying on-air about how hot the record is. Banks says his Juelz Santana assisted banger came about while he was penning records for his V5 mixtape , which dropped just before New Year’s. “That was the first CD I wrote all of the material for,” Banks said about V5 . “All of the other mixtapes was just scattered-around material. ‘I’ll take those five [songs from there]. I’ll take those five.’ That momentum led to ‘Beamer, Benz or Bentley.’ “I didn’t want to just come back with a commercial record that’s gonna be worked mainstream,” he continued, explaining why he chose to do a mixtape. “The first thing [some of the fans are] gonna do is question you: ‘Where have you been?’ For some people, this is my first record back, for those that just pay attention to the radio. But for those who follow MTV.com and ThisIs50.com, they know I’ve been leaving my mark on the Internet scene for the past year.” It was Skull Gang artist John Depp (the Queens rapper, not the movie star) who brought together Juelz and Banks, who happens to be Depp’s cousin. “The Juelz feature is something that didn’t happen in [the past] because we had two of our own entities,” Banks explained. “G-Unit had a lot of our own artists we had to showcase, same with Dipset. I was doing records with Prodigy, Mobb Deep, with everybody. I didn’t have to go outside the circle. I was excited about the staff we had there. Now it’s time for change.” The resulting collaboration debuted at #76 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. “To have ‘Beamer, Benz or Bentley’ added to Hot 97 within three or four days was incredible,” Banks said. “That was one mix-show weekend that really came at the right time. I’m so thankful, man. It goes to show as long as you keep striving for what you believe in and your goals, you can make it happen.” Banks said he did feel some of the effects of a G-Unit backlash over the past couple of years, but he thinks that’s finally over. “A lot of the backlash was due to the success of G-Unit,” Banks concluded. “People forgot about the talent we possess and just start thinking about all the business moves. … I wanted to go back to the formula. This is what you respect? You respect rappers? Well, I’mma rap my ass off this year. I’m still in that zone. ” ‘Beamer, Benz or Bentley’ is just one record. I got another smash on the way with somebody that they probably never thought I would work with,” he teased. And he and Santana recorded other material together, including a song currently slated to appear on Juelz’s upcoming mixtape The Reagan Era. Related Artists Lloyd Banks Juelz Santana
