It’s Meghan Markle’s first holiday season as a member of the royal family — and we think it’s safe to say this is not how she imagined it would play out. In recent weeks, much ink has been spilled over the rumored feud between Meghan and Kate Middleton , with several sources indicating that the situation seems to be escalating. Alleged causes of the rift vary depending from one source to the next, but accounts concur that things are steadily getting worse. The situation has gotten so dire that in an unprecedented move, Kensington Palace issued a statement about the feud . It’s even been reported that the fighting has begun to negatively affect the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry , Despite the disagreement over the causes of the bad blood, it’s widely agreed that the feud has now expanded to encompass Meghan and Kate’s spouses. In fact, according to a new report from the Daily Mail , Will and Meghan are no longer on speaking terms. According to this version of events, the quarreling began last Christmas when Prince Charles arranged a get-together for the then-future in-laws at Anmer Hall, Will and Kate’s country estate. It seems Charles had caught wind of the fact that William didn’t consider Meghan a suitable bride for Harry, and the idea was for the two of them to get to know each other better. But Charles’ attempt at peacemaking backfired spectacularly, as William “voiced his concerns” which led to a “ghastly row,” during which the two couples exchanged insults. Kate reportedly took Meghan aside in hopes of making peace — but instead, she made the situation worse yet again. “Kate had a quiet word with Meghan,” a source tells the Mail. “It escalated rapidly after Meghan complained to Harry that she had been ‘told off.'” it seems of those who know Meghan and Kate best are not surprised that they haven’t been able to get along. Kate reportedly took it upon herself to coach Meghan on the ins and outs of royal life — and Meg wasn’t exactly a willing pupil. “Meghan’s a strong character and so is Kate, so it doesn’t surprise me there have been clashes,” says a different royal source. The Anmer Hall clash took place last Christmas, and it might go a long way toward explaining why the Cambridges (Will and Kate) and the Sussexes (Harry and Meghan) won’t be spending the holiday together this year. Insiders say Will and Kate will be spending Christmas with her family at Bucklebury, while Harry and Meghan will be with the rest of the Royals at Sandringham At the moment, it seems the two couples have given up trying to get along and are more focused on determining the identity of the “mole” that keeps leaking all this info to the press. But hey, the important thing is, they’ll all be spending the holidays in places with almost impossibly British-sounding names.
