Quentin Tarantino’s Spaghetti Western: What We Know So Far

Details are beginning to fall in place for director’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ follow-up. By Eric Ditzian Quentin Tarantino Photo: Charles Eshelman/ FilmMagic For years, Quentin Tarantino has been talking about the kooky idea of making a spaghetti western-esque film that explores American slavery. Now multiple reports suggest he might be moving forward with a project in a similar vein. Nothing’s confirmed yet, of course, but all this chatter does seem to indicate that Tarantino’s next production following the Oscar-winning, $300 million-grossing success of 2009’s “Inglourious Basterds” will, in fact, be a spaghetti western. There have been, until now, numerous projects the filmmaker was said to be considering , though he has long stated a desire to explore the western genre. “I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time,” Tarantino told us late in ’09 of the slavery pic. “That’s definitely in the garden, for lack of a better metaphor. That is definitely one of my roses.” So what do we know so far? Back in 2007, Tarantino spoke at length to Britain’s Telegraph about that project, calling it the Southern equivalent of a western. “I want to do movies that deal with America’s horrible past with slavery and stuff but do them like spaghetti westerns, not like big issue movies,” he said. “I want to do them like they’re genre films, but they deal with everything that America has never dealt with because it’s ashamed of it, and other countries don’t really deal with because they don’t feel they have the right to.” Tarantino, instead, chose to explore an alt-history take on World War II with “Basterds.” When MTV News caught up with him late last year, he confessed that he still hadn’t committed to his next project, though he did say that rumors of taking on an adaptation of “The Shadow” were untrue. Only in recent days has talk of a spaghetti western, devoid of a connection to slavery, picked up steam. Deadline reported that Tarantino said he has completed the script for the new movie and that the writing, unlike his work on “Basterds” and “Kill Bill,” came together quite quickly. Meanwhile, the actor Franco Nero gave an Italian-language interview at the Los Angeles Italia festival in which he said that talent has already been coalescing around the project, including himself, Keith Carradine and Treat Williams. “It’s a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot,” Nero said. Ain’t It Cool News picked up on the news and added some intriguing details — most intriguingly that Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for his turn as a cold-blooded Nazi in “Basterds,” would also star in the flick. According to AICN, the script is not based on any existing material but is an original script and will potentially begin production in Spain and Italy later this year. Diddy Reveals Dirty Money Coming Home Tour Dates

Shows supporting Last Train to Paris will be ‘intimate,’ Diddy says. By Jayson Rodriguez Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage Diddy is taking his Last Train to Paris on the road as the Bad Boy Records CEO announced tour dates in support of his recent effort. The 20-city Coming Home trek kicks off next month, on April 13 in Minneapolis, and finds Diddy-Dirty Money travelling to Chicago, Toronto, New York and Los Angeles before wrapping up May 15 in St. Louis. The tour will be more “intimate” than his previous road shows, Diddy says in a YouTube clip promotion the outing. “You’re gonna be able to see my eyes,” Diddy says. “You’re gonna be able to smell my cologne. You’re gonna be able to look at the ladies and see their caramel complexion. You’re gonna be able to hear their voices. You’re gonna be up close and personal, baby. It’s super HD.” In December, Diddy released the long-delayed Last Train to Paris project to a top-10 debut. He took to YouTube to thank his fans their unwavering support. His last album, 2006’s Press Play , also had a strong first week, landing at #1 on the Billboard albums chart after its release. “Anybody that knows me, it’s rare when I’m extra happy, but today … this last two weeks, I’ve just been blown away by all the support that I’ve gotten from you guys,” he said. “You already know I deal with a lot of hate, and I talk about that. But it’s also important to talk about when I’m dealing with a lot of love, and the love that y’all have shown me and the girls on this project … Y’all made this project a success, and I want to say thank you.” Diddy-Dirty Money Coming Home Tour dates, presented by BET Live! :

Diddy Thanks Fans, Twitter For Last Train To Paris’ Top 10 Debut

‘Y’all made this project a success,’ he tells Dirty Money supporters. By James Dinh Diddy-Dirty Money’s Dawn Richard, Diddy and Kalenna Harper Photo: Joe Scarnici/ WireImage In his latest video blog, Diddy credits the early success of Diddy-Dirty Money ‘s long-delayed album Last Train to Paris to his fans and Twitter. The project, which was estimated to sell just 65,000 copies in its first week, nabbed the #7 spot on next week’s Billboard albums chart with 101,000 copies sold. “Anybody that knows me, it’s rare when I’m extra happy, but today … this last two weeks, I’ve just been blown away by all the support that I’ve gotten from you guys,” the rapper says in the YouTube clip. “You already know I deal with a lot of hate, and I talk about that. But it’s also important to talk about when I’m dealing with a lot of love, and the love that y’all have shown me and the girls on this project … y’all made this project a success, and I want to say thank you.” While Diddy acknowledged the fact that the group didn’t score any #1 singles with the project (so far), he revealed that the hits are on the way with “Coming Home” and “Ass on the Floor.” The media mogul stressed, however, that he considered Paris to be one of the first albums where Twitter and viral hype trumped radio support. In addition to the Bad Boy CEO’s video, the trio gushed about defying early estimates in a statement: “Well, they were wrong. With the help of our fans and the tremendous power of Twitter our debut album skyrocketed to #7 on The Billboard 200 chart scanning more than 100k units. Also this week, our new single, ‘Coming Home’ broke through to the top ten on iTunes. This is an amazing start for a brand new group and for a debut album. We are so thankful!” Earlier this month, MTV News spoke with Diddy about the LP’s many delays. “The wait is over,” Diddy said. “We pushed our album back a bunch of times because we felt, to be honest, we weren’t ready. I think a lot of times artists make that mistake. They get locked into a date and they’re like, ‘Well, I told everybody my date was this.’ ” Did you pick up a copy of Last Train to Paris ?
