Giuliana and Bill Rancic: Meet Baby Edward!

Meet Giuliana and Bill Rancic’s baby boy ! Spoiler alert: He’s cute!! Two weeks after becoming a family of three, the proud parents are revealing the very first photos of their new addition, son Edward Duke Rancic, in Life & Style. The regally named son arrived via gestational carrier – he’s their biological child, but a surrogate handled the pregnancy aspect – in Denver on August 29. Giuliana and Bill Rancic say they are “blessed beyond words.” “[He’s] got Giuliana’s dimples!” says Bill, who married Giuliana five years ago. “It’s amazing how maternal instincts have taken over, and G’s just supermom.” The happy mom, meanwhile, reveals what inspired their son’s name. “Edward is both Bill’s late dad’s name and my dad’s name,” Giuliana explains. “It was a way to honor them.” As for the middle name, “Duke means leader.” Giuliana is taking some time off from E! duties, but will be back on the air hosting the network’s Emmy Awards red carpet special on Sept. 23. She Tweets: “Coming back to E! for one night then back to changing diapers :)”

Happy Birthday, Jennifer Hudson!

One of the more talented, respected stars in all of Hollywood turns 31 years old today. And we send our very best wishes to Jennifer Hudson on this special occasion! The Oscar winner and former American Idol finalist has showed truly incredible strength in the face of incomprehensible personal pain over the last few years, following the murders of her mother, brother and nephew. She even said in an interview this week that she can’t totally blame William Balfour for committing the crime. Set to recur on Smash Season 2 in early 2013, the professional future is bright for this singer/actress. We wish her the absolute best. Other famous folks celebrating a birthday today include: Ruben Studdard (34), Benjamin McKenzie (34), Paul Walker (39) and George Jones (81).

A Very New York Times Thanksgiving: An Interfaith Service ‘Transcending’ Christianity for Woody Guthrie

Thanksgiving may have begun in America as a Christian event, but The New York Times is much fonder of an event that “transcends” that persnickety Jesus-is-the-way-and-the-truth Christianity and celebrates the vaguely Unitarian left. Longtime Times reporter Peter Applebome championed an event in Pleasantville, New York in his “Our Towns” column on Monday : Maybe it took a country-and-western rabbi to put together the interfaith Thanksgiving service that ended Sunday with Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists singing “This Land Is Your Land” along with Woody Guthrie's daughter, Nora Guthrie. Rabbi Mark Sameth of the local synagogue (who told Applebome that “George Jones is God”) and Rev. Stephen Phillips, the local Methodist minister, put together the interfaith hootenanny, but don’t call it liberal. Just call it… “off-center.” read more
