One Direction’s Up All Night Poised To Best Adele, Springsteen

Boy band’s debut album is amping up for a #1 debut on Billboard albums chart next week. By Jocelyn Vena One Direction Photo: Larry Busacca/ Getty Images Adele lost the top spot on the Billboard chart this week to Bruce Springsteen, and it seems that five British boy-banders are also eyeing the crown for next week’s chart. One Direction ‘s U.S. debut, Up All Night , is looking to sell big and give the big-voiced British songstress and the Boss a run for their money. “There didn’t seem to be much hype until all of a sudden it sort of exploded,” Keith Caulfield, associate director of charts at Billboard, told MTV News about the tween phenomenon hitting the mainstream. “The album should do somewhere in the range of 160,000 to 180,000, that’s what we’re projecting right now. It’s a little hard to gauge just because they’re so youth-appealing and because they’re basically a boy band, it’s hard to project how consumers will react to the album. It could go higher; it could go a little lower. So, it has a definite shot at #1. And if it does debut at #1, [we’re reporting that] it would mark the first time a British group’s first album has debuted at #1. “But Adele could still pull it out and block them. It’s kind of up in the air right now,” Caulfield added. “It’s kind of a race.” What may help them keep that longevity alive is the onslaught of American love they have been receiving lately. Nickelodeon confirmed that the guys now have a development deal with the network and are set to appear on one of its biggest shows, “iCarly,” next season. “One Direction really worked social media and were really active at getting their fanbase energized,” Caulfield said. “It really depends on how far they can reach outside of their core base [to continue selling records and sustain that momentum]. Will they be able to be accepted on radio? Will they become a pop culture phenomenon outside of [teen girls]? With all the right moves, they can do it.” But as soon as the 1D wave washes over the charts and a Boy-band bonanza continues, another, brasher group of lads is also eyeing chart domination. The Wanted will drop their self-titled U.S. debut on April 24. So, can they sell just as big? “The Wanted skew older. Their music is more mature in its content, so naturally they are going to skew a little older,” Caulfield told us, noting that One Direction’s tweened-out fandom won’t be replicated with the Wanted. “Does that mean they won’t sell as much? Well, no, they’re going to appeal to a different group of people. So, it’s too early to tell what the Wanted will do, but considering the single [‘Glad You Came’ is] doing so well, that at least gives positive energy towards what the album will do,” he said. “We didn’t know what One Direction was going to do until this week. One Direction has that [tween] appeal that makes people want to invest in that phenomenon.” Who do you think will take the #1 spot next week: One Direction, Adele or Bruce Springsteen? Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music Album Is ‘Pretty Close’ To Finished

‘It’s an album that’s all over the place, it’s not just one thing,’ producer Mannie Fresh tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Nadeska Alexis Kanye West Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage Good things come to those who wait, and according to Mannie Fresh , Kanye West ‘s G.O.O.D. Music compilation is “pretty close” to being finished. Still no word on an actual release date, but the former Cash Money hitmaker is excited about his sessions with Yeezy’s crew. “The cool thing about G.O.O.D. Music is it’s a bunch of great ideas and I’m one of those ideas,” he told MTV News on Thursday at the South by Southwest festival. “[Kanye’s] trying to find the most talented producers, most talented artists, put ’em all in a room and say, ‘Go for it. Y’all energy, like whatever is creative to y’all.’ ” It all sounds pretty organic. “I just kinda went to the Watch the Throne concert. Word got back that I was in there and we linked up from there,” Fresh said about his and Kanye’s initial meeting. “Next thing you know, I was at his crib playing beats, [and] he was just like, ‘Dude I like mostly everything you played. Sign right here.’ ” It’s still unclear whether Fresh has actually signed on with G.O.O.D. Music, but he has clearly been putting in a lot of work with the team, which includes Yeezy, Big Sean, Pusha T and producer Hit-Boy. “The cool thing is, in hip-hop history, when have we ever got along? It’s a cool thing that we’re sitting at the table, all of us get along on one accord trying to make something great — G.O.O.D. Music,” Fresh said. Much of the G.O.O.D. Music album is still shrouded in mystery. We know the crew has been recording in London, but beyond that there hasn’t been any information regarding an official album title or singles. “It’s pretty close, I would say it’s pretty close,” Mannie said about the LP’s expected completion date. “Songs phenomenal, everything. It’s an album that’s all over the place, it’s not just one thing. It’s not just that you’re gonna hear some Southern hip-hop or whatever. You’re gonna hear everything.” What are your expectations for the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album? Tell us in the comments! Rick Ross Doesn’t Get ‘Thought Process’ Behind Young Jeezy’s ‘B.M.F.’

The streets are speculating about Jeezy’s latest track ‘Death B4 Dishonor,’ in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive You know we only drop Mixtape Daily twice in one day when it really calls for it; we like to give you this dopeness in doses. Earlier, we brought you the latest on Slick Pulla , and now we’re going to keep it on the topic of CTE. As the 1515 fellas were heading out of the headquarters to begin an early b-day celebration for our very own J-Rod, CTE blasted out the new Young Jeezy record “Death B4 Dishonor” from his new mixtape 1000 Grams (due Thursday at 1:03 p.m.). The Snowman raps over Rick Ross’ instrumental to “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast),” and a few lines set Twitter on fire: “How you Blowin’ Money Fast?/ You don’t know the crew/ Oh, you part of the fam?/ Sh–, I never knew.” Plenty of people were speculating that Young was throwing not-so-subliminal jabs at Rick Ross, a Def Jam labelmate whom he has collaborated with in the past. We’ll have to catch up with Jeezy and Ross soon to find out what’s really going down, but eyebrows were first raised in late June when Jeezy released the track “B.M.F. (The Real Blowin’ Money Fast).” Young declined to speak about the song. We asked Ross what he thought about Jeezy’s “B.M.F.,” and the Carol City hitmaker said he didn’t understand it, but he wasn’t upset by the track. “I haven’t had a chance to talk to the homie,” Ross said. “I really don’t know what the thought process was behind it. My record was called ‘Blowin’ Money Fast.’ It confused me that if it was called ‘The Real B.M.F.,’ I would have called it ‘The Black Mafia Family.’ … You know, you may have to ask him. Other than that, we still reppin’, we still riding, and [my] record is getting love everywhere. So it’s all good.” What is your take on Jeezy’s new song? Share your thoughts in the comments.
