However the retailer came under fire for labeling their chubby-lumpkin ladies’ options “Fat Girl Costumes” on their online store earlier today. Via TheHollywoodGossip : The global chain has come out and said it’s very sorry for offering Halloween costumes to “Fat Girls.” Earlier today, online customers were aghast to see the retailer labeled a section of its adult plus-size Halloween outfits as “Fat Girl Costumes.” An influx of negative responses turned “Fat Girl Costumes” into a trending topic on Twitter, with one user summing up everyone’s feelings thusly: “Walmart took it to another level today with their ‘fat girl costumes’ section on their website. Disappointed and flabbergasted.” In response to the controversy, a spokesperson for Walmart has issues the following statement: This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize. We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again.” The section of the website has since been revised to read “Women’s Plus-Size Halloween Costumes.” Last year, Target was also forced to apologize after it listed a plus-sized dress as available in manatee gray.
