R.I.P DJ E-Z Rock Of “It Takes Two” Fame Passes Away At 46

Definitely gone too soon. Hip-Hop’s DJ EZ Rock Dies At Age 46 Another important player in hip-hop history has gone to an early grave . The death of Rob Base’s partner in rhyme, DJ EZ Rock, was confirmed Sunday. According to Rolling Stone reports : Rodney Bryce, who made his mark on hip-hop under the name DJ E-Z Rock, died Sunday, a spokesperson for Bryce’s friend and collaborator Rob Base confirmed to Rolling Stone. The cause of death has yet to be revealed. Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock released their first single, “DJ Interview,” in 1986, but the 46-year-old Bryce cemented himself into the hip-hop canon with 1988′s iconic track “It Takes Two.” Produced by Teddy Riley and built around a vocal sample from Lyn Collins’ 1972 hit “Think (About It),” the song blended hip-hop with house music and became a nationwide hit, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Songs chart and helping to lift rap into the pop consciousness. The track would later be sampled by Snoop Dogg, Gang Starr, Girl Talk and South Korean girl group 2NE1, among many others, and has long become a pop culture staple, appearing in everything from the soundtrack to the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to a scene in Sandra Bullock’s 2009 romantic comedy The Proposal. The duo released two other singles from their debut album —”Joy and Pain” and “Get on the Dance Floor”—but “It Takes Two” would be the standout single off the group’s debut album of the same name. The album was certified platinum in 1989 and reached No. 31 on the Billboard 200, an impressive feat for a hip-hop album at the time. Bryce would not appear on Rob Base’s 1989 follow-up The Incredible Base, but reunited with the rapper for 1994′s Break of Dawn. Rob Base and E-Z Rock both grew up in Harlem, becoming friends in the fourth grade. “Back then, there were other groups and we used to see other people perform,” E-Z Rock told Pennsylvania newspaper The Morning Call in 1991. “I bought a set of turntables and he bought a mic.” So sad. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family… Peep a few tributes from some fellow hip-hop artists on the flipside. WENN

Seen On The Scene: Karen Civil, Tyga, Eva Marcille And More Celebrate Shiekh Shoes’ Hollywood Grand Opening

Westside! Los Angeles’ finest were on hand to help Shiekh Shoes and Karen Civil kick off the grand opening celebration for Shiekh’s newest location. Over the weekend, LA celebs, reality stars and musicians flooded the new location on Hollywood Blvd to bask in the sexiness of the modern location. On hand to help celebrate was media maven, Karen Civil, who served as official host along with Mr. King Gold Chains himself, rapper Tyga. We know ladies love shoes and the women of Basketball Wives LA were on hand for free shoes and tons of Zing Vodka/POPwater cocktails. Jackie Christie arrived with her daughter Chantel and was happy to promote her shoe collaboration with Shiekh Shoes. Also, Malaysia Pargo (who blatantly avoided Jackie) and Laura Govan posed for photos. Guests enjoyed a slew of impromptu performances from R&B crooner Eric Bellinger, girl group PTAF (who took the internet hit “Boss A** B*tch” to a whole new level), and Atlanta’s own Jazze Pha. Also in attendance was Let’s Stay Together star Kyla Pratt, Hollywood Exes’ Shamicka Lawrence, model Rosa Acosta, and many more. Peep more pics below: Photos: Ryan for Rehab Online Magazine

Four Basketball Wives L.A. Cast Members: Fired!

Basketball Wives: LA is canning four of its six cast members, according to reports. Yes, that is actually a real show on VH1 apparently. Draya Michele and Jackie Christie (second and third from left) will return. Everyone else? Gone. Gloria Govan, Laura Govan, Malaysia Pargo and Brooke Bailey were all fired because the wives, Gloria in particular, weren’t allowing “all of their reality to be filmed.” The nail in the coffin? Govan nixing VH1 from her wedding to L.A. Clippers star Matt Barnes. She flew off to Vegas and didn’t even let them known about it, let alone film it. VH1 felt disrespected by her actions and made the decision to kick two-thirds of them to the curb. Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan may or may not still be together anymore, but that’s moot. Producers are already looking for new women to take the four aforementioned spots. Any crazy basketball WAGs you can think of who could fill these impressive shoes?

Were You Watching: Was Imani Out Of Line Calling Draya “Worthless” On Basketball Wives L.A.?

This week’s “Angry Birds” aka Basketball Wives L.A. featured Laura Govan and Malaysia Pargo apologize for their trifling behavior fighting in a restaurant on the first episode. However not everyone was apologetic in the second episode — namely Draya who defended her days working the pole as no big deal after Imani questioned her morals. “Yeah, I showed my boobs for money — whoopty do” she added that maybe Imani’s boobs weren’t as nice as hers and that’s why she wasn’t comfortable showing them. The topic came up again in a session with a life coach (after the girls decide Draya needs to be rescued from her immoral lifestyle) after a game where each woman was asked to use an adjective to describe their peers, when Draya’s adjectives are read they are mostly negative — Sneaky, Combative, Animated and Worthless… the game’s supposed to be anonymous but Jackie quickly owns up to her adjective and the others follow suit leaving Imani to admit she called Draya worthless for reasons she doesn’t want to go into in this forum. The last scene of the show is the girls showing up for Draya’s party — and she isn’t very nice. In the preview for next week’s episode we see Imani and Draya have a sit down where Draya defends the stories about her son’s neglect by saying he’s never been taken away from her. At this point we’ve all heard the story of Draya leaving her son home alone to heat up microwave meals — so between that and her unapologetic attitude about her stripper past — is she really worthless? Or is this something only time will tell? View This Poll
