Forty-five years ago today, a baby boy named Adam Richard Sandler was born to an electrical engineer and a nursery school teacher in Brooklyn. After breaking big on Saturday Night Live at the age of 24, Sandler would go on to become one of the most successful actor-comedians of our generation and an even more successful movie producer. In spite of the scathing reviews that his films generate, we still love him as an entertainer, laugh maker and occasionally dramatic actor. So gather around the cake, sing-squawk a few off-key bars of “Happy Birthday” and let’s name Sandler’s finest onscreen moment.

Jane Fonda Biographer Patricia Bosworth on the Actress, Her Movies, and the Horny Prowess of Henry Fonda

At age 74, Jane Fonda still beams with a dogged courage that has fueled her cinematic, political, and entrepreneurial endeavors. Biographer Patricia Bosworth would know firsthand, having met the two-time Oscar winner during their thespian days with Lee Strasberg in New York City’s Actors Studio. For four decades Bosworth has studied the shapeshifting Fonda, and when it came time in the early 2000s to write her biography, Fonda agreed to interview with the woman who had, by that time, written tomes about Montgomery Clift and Marlon Brando.

Turns out Frank Marshall’s mysterious Back to the Future tweets this week weren’t just for a cash-grab retro Nike tie-in shoe , but part of an entire operation created to raise money for the Parkinson’s research charity of Michael J. Fox, the film series star. As of 9:30pm PT Thursday, one hour into the 10-day auction of 150 pairs of the limited edition kicks — fully replicated from Marty McFly’s shoe closet and pimped out in futuristic detail — bids were already in the thousands for a single pair.
