New social studies standards in Texas for textbooks and instruction are prompting the California legislature to consider a bill preventing Texas textbooks from getting into California classrooms. The planned changes in textbooks and instruction approved by the Texas State School Board are widely regarded as being historically inaccurate and dismissive of the contributions of minorities. In response to the approved changes in Texas curriculum, California State Sen.
