Riley Cooper Returns to Eagles Training Camp, Feels "100 Percent" Supported By Team

Philadelphia Eagles player Riley Cooper is back at practice after a brief leave of absence from the team, following a racial slur he made in a video that went viral. The embattled wide receiver said that he’s spoken with each of his teammates individually, asking them not to forgive him, but to judge him by his future. “I talked to everyone individually,” he said. “I told them, ‘ I don’t want you to forgive me , because that puts the burden on you. I want it all on me.'” “I told them that and I told them I apologize. They could tell it was from the heart, they know I’m not that kind of person. It feels good to have support.” He added that he felt that “100 percent” of his teammates supported him, something he sensed on the field in his return to Eagles training camp. “It felt good to be out there with the guys, catching and running and making plays and them coming up to you, supporting you,” Riley Cooper added. “High-fiving you, chest-bumping you like Jason Avant did in the end zone when I had that TD … It just felt good to be back out here with the guys.” The Eagles excused him Friday and sent him for sensitivity training after video of his remark, made at a June Kenny Chesney concert, surfaced last week. His goal now is to earn the respect back from his teammates. Riley Cooper Racial Slur “Absolutely, just by my actions,” Cooper said of his goal. “Don’t judge me for the past, more so the future and just watch my daily moves and what I’m doing.” Fellow wide receiver Avant, among the team leaders spotlighted by coach Chip Kelly, said that the Eagles are more or less over the situation as a team. “I think you guys [the media] need the healing process more than the team,” Avant said. “You guys got to cover it, so you keeping going, making the story go.” “As far as our team, I think guys are definitely over it and we talked, we’ve had dialogue, we’ve accepted his apology. The only thing he can do is apologize.” “What else can he do? When a situation happens like that, there’s not too many things you can do but apologize and be sincere. Now you guys have to get over it.” Asked whether or not a situation could arise where the team would part ways with Cooper due to the fallout from the situation, Kelly squashed the notion. “I don’t see that happening,” he said. “After talking to our players, I think our players really understand the situation … I don’t envision that happening.” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement Tuesday that Cooper’s slur was “totally unacceptable” but that the receiver was working to regain trust. “Riley has apologized to the team and community and has made a personal commitment to work hard to try and gain their trust and earn his position on the team,” Lurie said.

Riley Cooper Excused From Eagles, Will Focus on Counseling

Embattled wide receiver Riley Cooper has been excused from the Philadelphia Eagles indefinitely, citing a need for counseling and sensitivity training. The move comes two days after a video from a Kenny Chesney concert showed Cooper using a racial slur toward an African-American security guard. Riley Cooper Racial Slur “Riley Cooper will be seeking counseling and we have excused him from all team activities,” the Eagles said in a statement. “This is all new territory.” “He will meet with professionals provided by the Eagles during this time to better help him understand how his words have hurt so many, including his teammates.” “We are going to evaluate this timetable every step of the way.” Cooper practiced Thursday but often seemed isolated and alone between repetitions. Before the scandal broke, he seemed on track to win a starting job. Now his mere employment seems jeopardized at best. Quarterback Michael Vick expressed forgiveness of Cooper on Wednesday. The reaction of other teammates has ranged from supportive to tepid. Cooper is clearly struggling to come to grips with his actions and the subsequent fallout, which has included angry responses from other NFL players. Riley Cooper Excused From Eagles “The last few days have been incredibly difficult for me,” he said. “My actions were inexcusable. The more I think about what I did, the more disgusted I get.” “I keep trying to figure out how I could have said something so repulsive, and what I can do to make things better. Right now, I think it’s important for me to take some time to reflect .” “The organization and my teammates have been extremely supportive, but I also realize that there are people who will have a tough time forgiving me.” “The best thing for me, and for the team, is to step away for a period of time. “During this time I’m going to be speaking with a variety of professionals to help me better understand how I could have done something that was so offensive.” “My goal is to find a way to start the healing process for everyone. As long as it takes, and whatever I have to do, I’m going to try to make this right.”

Governor Rick Scott Says Rev. Jesse Jackson “Manipulates African-Americans”, Demands Apologize For Calling Florida An “Apartheid State”

Is Mr. Rainbow Coalition really a “race hustler”? Governor Rick Scott Demands Apology From Jesse Jackson Over Comments That Florida Is A Racist State Via HuffingtonPost Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) demanded an apology from the Rev. Jesse Jackson on Wednesday, in response to Jackson’s recent comments likening Florida to the “Selma of our time” and an “apartheid state.” “Jesse Jackson owes every Floridian an apology for his reckless and divisive comments,” Scott said in a statement released Wednesday, according to the Miami Herald. “It is unfortunate that he would come to Florida to insult Floridians and divide our state at a time when we are striving for unity and healing.” Jackson’s comments came during a mock legislative session on Tuesday, meant to address questions in the wake of George Zimmerman’s acquittal of charges stemming from the 2012 killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. Flanked by members of the Dream Defenders protest group, Jackson urged Florida lawmakers to repeal the state’s controversial “stand your ground” law in a staged demonstration. “The manipulation of African-Americans [in Florida] is disgraceful … You incentivize killing people,” he declared. “‘Stand your ground’ laws must end.” He went on to assert that a boycott of the “apartheid state” of Florida would be in order if the U.S. Department of Justice failed to file a civil lawsuit against Zimmerman. “Incentivize”??? Really??? Jackson also compared Scott to former Alabama Gov. George Wallace (D), who attempted to obstruct desegregation by physically blocking two black students from entering the University of Alabama’s Foster Auditorium in 1963. “We’ve seen Southern governors before change their minds,” said Jackson, alluding to the apology that Wallace would later issue for his segregationist stances. “Wallace said we couldn’t go to the University of Alabama. He had to change his mind.” Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford (R) took to Twitter to assert that Jackson’s comparison of Scott and Wallace crossed the line. “I am embarrassed for him and his irresponsible statement,” he tweeted. Dream Defenders’ Steve Parjett told the Herald that he applauded Jackson for being “committed to continuing to help us and continuing to provide support.” Does Jesse owe Florida an apology? Is Gov. Scott being a little too sensitive?? Images via AP Continue reading

How would you want people to perceive it? I’ve been there before,” said Vick, who made the most of his second chance with the Eagles after serving a 21-month sentence for his role in a dog-fighting ring. “Him being my brother, knowing him for so long, it’s hard to defend him saying that. At the same, time, it happened. We talked about it man to man, one on one. We just know that we have to some way move on. It’s a very delicate situation. But we all understand. Somehow we all have to find a way to get past it.
