Mississippi police officer Carl Ellis in was charged with taking care of his narcotic-sniffing K-9 partner, Ringo, upon the dog’s retirement from the Jackson Police Department. Instead, he dropped the dog at a local shelter and was caught when Ringo’s former trainer Randy Hare was contacted about adoption. As a result of this shabby behavior of a former police officer, Ellis was “demoted”. But this story isn’t about Ringo or the shady officer who dumped his bestest boy at the shelter, this is about people’s reactions to this story in contrast to how they react when police kill unarmed Black people.
