Now that Betty Draper has been reduced to a constantly frowning plot device during this season of Mad Men , it stand to reason that Emmy-nominated star January Jones would want to branch out a bit and ply her trade on the big screen in a big, fun comic book movie. However, if the first images of Jones as Emma Frost on the set of next summer’s X-Men: First Class are any indication, she didn’t stray very far from her Mad Men wheelhouse. Emma Roberts and Directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden on It’s Kind of a Funny Story’s Unexpected Uplift

It’s only a few days until this Saturday’s Toronto Film Festival premiere of It’s Kind of a Funny Story , and already, something feels very different for filmmakers Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden. It isn’t just the assurance that Focus Features will release the film in theaters October 8 — as Boden puts it, “It’s nice to be able to go to a festival and enjoy the response to the film without that added pressure of having to sell it” — but the realization that after making very challenging, independent movies like Half Nelson and Sugar , Boden and Fleck have turned in a third feature that could finally be their mainstream crowd-pleaser.

Is Ron Howard’s Insane New Dark Tower Plan the Craziest Hollywood Gambit Ever?

On a day where Martin Freeman may have become Peter Jackson’s new Hobbit , it looks like Ron Howard may have become our new Peter Jackson. Howard and Akiva Goldsman just closed the craziest deal ever ever ever to adapt Stephen King’s Dark Tower series into a Lord of the Rings -surpassing movie trilogy and television series — and they’ll film it all at the same time, using the same actors and sets. What?
