Source: SOPA Images / Getty Ellen DeGeneres Faces A Lot Of Backlash For George W. Bush Friendship Over the weekend, photos of beloved daytime TV host Ellen DeGeneres sitting next to former president George W. Bush at the Dallas Cowboys game were circulating on social media and causing all sorts of confusion. Laura & George Bush sitting with Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi is not something I expected to see at an NFL game pic.twitter.com/AbWbhXd3RC — Paid man gets bored (@cjzero) October 6, 2019 While some fans were tickled by the unlikely pairing, others were quick to point out the irony of Ellen being friendly with Bush, considering his politics—especially his anti-LGTBQ stance, given that Ellen is a lesbian. George W. Bush previously called for making gay marriage unconstitutional in 2004, saying, “the union of a man and a woman is the most enduring human institution, honored and encouraged in all cultures and by every religious faith.” On Tuesday, once DeGeneres returned to her day job, she posted a video explaining her thoughts on all the backlash and gave an explanation for what led her to this situation. Ellen revealed that she and her wife Portia de Rossi were invited to the game by the daughter of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Charlotte Jones. “People were upset, they thought why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president,” the host began. “Here’s the thing, I’m friends with George Bush, in fact I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different and I think we’ve forgotten that that’s OK that we’re all different. For instance, I wish people wouldn’t wear fur. I don’t like it, but I’m friends with people who wear fur. I’m friends with people who are furry, as a matter of a fact. Just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be friends with them. When I say be kind to one another I don’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do, I mean be kind to everyone. Doesn’t matter.” For a lot of people, this explanation still wasn’t satisfactory, pointing out plenty of other problematic policies implemented by Bush during his presidency. Are you buying Ellen’s excuse for her unlikely friendship?

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Sally Hazelgrove Apologizes For Old Photos Of Her Cutting Off Locs Jay-Z’s recent actions following his business dealings with the NFL have had fans raising their eyebrows, but nothing was more confusing than finding out one of the charities he decided to donate to had a history of cutting teenagers’ locs to give them “a better life.” Crushers Club has now deleted some of the above tweets. Researchers know to always screenshots. : Tweets and pics of the Crushers Club practice of cutting off the locs of Black youth. This group got thousands in NFL #InspireChange . pic.twitter.com/yKUisKF6vo — Resist Programming (@RzstProgramming) September 6, 2019 After securing a $200,000 donation from Roc Nation and being exposed for some shady practices, Crusher Club’s Sally Hazelgrove is apologizing for those photos of her cutting two young black men’s hair. She said the following in a statement: “Out of 500 youth going through our doors I cut two young men’s hair because they asked me to and we are a family structure and so I did it and didn’t really think about it after that. I tweeted about it without much thought. It’s hair. But I regret it now and I promise you I will not be doing that again if asked…. The hatred and accusations from this took me by surprise. The backlash has been hard to be honest.” Kobe, one of the teens pictured getting his locs chopped off, spoke out about all of the backlash and said it was his choice to get his hair cut. Message from Kobe pic.twitter.com/3CdH28pCUE — crushersclub (@crushersclub) September 6, 2019 But even with this clarification in mind, the public had more issues with Jay’s choice for charitable donation than just haircuts. Along with the photos of cutting locs, Crushers Club also received backlash for using the phrase “All Lives Matter” and asked President Donald Trump to help with gang violence in the city. Those tweets have since been deleted, but Hargrove said she wants to set the record straight about her previous comments. “I said that not to take away from Black Lives Matter, but to be inclusive of everyone. I never meant to belittle or disrespect anyone. I will be more sensitive of what I say moving forward. I truly have love for everyone of all races, religions and preferences, and hate does not live in me. I am so sorry for being insensitive. Despite the constant flow of backlash since Hov’s deal with the football organization went public, Roc Nation and the NFL have not addressed the controversy.
