Taylor Lautner Calls ‘Stretch Armstrong’ Superpower The ‘Worst’

‘It’s like the worst superhero power, possibly, to get,’ Lautner jokes of title character’s limb-extending abilities. By Eric Ditzian Taylor Lautner Photo: MTV News Taylor Lautner is looking to go from one shape-shifter to another. As the 18-year-old actor heads off in the fall to shoot the final two parts of the “Twilight” series for “Breaking Dawn” — slipping once again into the role of werewolf Jacob Black — he’s also got his eyes on his title role in “Stretch Armstrong,” a big-screen adaptation of the Hasbro action figure. As the title implies, this cinematic Stretch is an anxious spy who exposes himself to a formula that allows him to physically stretch his body to extremes. That power is hardly as cool as the ability to fly or shoot lasers from your eyes — in fact, it’s kinda lame — but as Lautner himself points out, that’s the point. “It’s like the worst superhero power, possibly, to get, and how you’re going to take that and use it for good and how you’re going to be creative with that [is the predicament],” Lautner told MTV News. The emphasis should be on the word “creative.” Unlike comic book franchises such as “Iron Man” or “Batman,” “Stretch” has no established story lines, giving screenwriter Nicholas Stoller a ton of latitude as he crafts the movie’s world. “The awesome thing with toys is it doesn’t give you a story line, so you get to create it,” Lautner added. “The development process for this movie has been awesome and it’s going to continue to be. I just can’t wait to see a script.” Right now, the actor is gearing up to shoot “Abduction” in the summer, followed by “Breaking Dawn” in the fall. Lautner is waiting to get his hands on the “Stretch” script before he slots the production into his schedule. There’s no set time for filming to commence on the 3-D film, which is slated for a 2012 release. “Nick [Stoller is] a genius, so I couldn’t be happier with the fact that he’s writing the script right now,” Lautner said. “I just want to see it.” Do you think Taylor will make a good superhero? Sigourney Weaver To Co-Star With Taylor Lautner In ‘Abduction’

‘Avatar’ star will play Lautner’s character’s psychiatrist in the 2011 thriller. By Adam Rosenberg Sigourney Weaver Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Based on the latest casting announcement, you’d be forgiven for thinking that “Abduction” focuses on a kidnapping perpetrated by little green men: Sigourney Weaver has joined the cast of the John Singleton-directed thriller. Weaver is set to star opposite Lily Collins and “Twilight” lead Taylor Lautner . Weaver is perhaps best known for her roles in sci-fi epics like “Avatar” and the “Alien” series, but “Abduction” is very much grounded in the real world. Lautner stars as a young man who one day discovers his own baby picture on a missing persons website. Variety reports that Weaver will play his psychiatrist. The story comes from a spec script by newcomer Shawn Christensen. The movie is set to shoot this July in Pittsburgh, with plans for a 2011 release. Gotham Group and Vertigo are producing along with Lautner’s Tailor Made label. Weaver will next be seen starring with Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis and Betty White in the Disney live-action release “You Again.” She has a number of other roles lined up as well, including Greg Mottola’s sci-fi comedy “Paul,” “Clueless” director Amy Heckerling’s ” ‘Sex and the City’ with vampires” movie “Vamps” and the long-awaited third “Ghostbusters” film. Lautner will of course next be seen reprising his role as Jacob Black in “Eclipse,” which hits theaters on June 30. He’s also got comic-book adaptation “Stretch Armstrong” lined up, from a script by Nicholas Stoller (re-writing Steve Oedekerk’s original), which is planned for an early 2012 release. It is expected that Lautner will be back on-set to shoot the final chapter in the “Twilight” series, “Breaking Dawn,” before the end of the year, though Summit’s rumored plans to break the story into two films remain unconfirmed.
