All Time Low Say Next Album Is ‘More Gritty’

‘We wanted to sound a little bit more like a rock band,’ Alex Gaskarth tells MTV News. By James Montgomery All Time Low Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — All Time Low ‘s last album, the snide-and-shiny Nothing Personal, debuted at #4 on the Billboard albums chart and thrust them from the fringes to the mainstream spotlight, so it’s sort of surprising to hear them talk about the follow-up, which, from the sound of things, is shaping up to be a very different thing indeed. “We’ve tried to get a little more gritty on this one, I guess, just less polished,” frontman Alex Gaskarth told MTV News on the VMA white carpet. “We had a very polished sound on the last album, and for what it was, it was perfect, but this time around, we wanted to sound a little bit more like a rock band.” “[There’s] less production, bells and whistles, as they call them,” drummer Rian Dawson added. “And just more … 30 guitars.” That’s a lot of guitars. And perhaps realizing those statements might worry the band’s longtime fans, guitarist Jack Barakat was quick to turn things back, in a jokey, decidedly ATL fashion. “Basically, we’re the new Guns N’ Roses,” he laughed. “This record is going to be our Chinese Democracy. [It’s] never going to come out.” He’s definitely kidding about that last bit; Gaskarth said the band have basically finished the still-untitled album, which is “hopefully” due in January. Working with a team that includes producers Mike Green (who worked on Paramore’s All We Know Is Falling ) and Matt Squire (who did their 2007 album So Wrong, It’s Right ), All Time Low have created an album that’s equally indebted to their past and future, as evidenced by a song called “Time Bomb,” which they’re hoping will be the first single. “We have no idea about that,” Gaskarth said. “There’s a song called ‘Time Bomb’ that I hope gets out there quickly, because we all really like it. But we’ll just have to wait and see.” Are you looking forward to new ATL music? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists All Time Low

Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress Nothing New For ‘Top Model’ Judges

‘We already did that in cycle 10 of ‘America’s Next Top Model.’ Sorry Gaga!’ Jay Manuel says. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Lady Gaga at the 2010 VMAs Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images While Lady Gaga may have worn her Franc Fernandez meat dress like nobody’s business at the VMAs, it’s hardly her original idea. “America’s Next Top Model” mentors Jay Manuel and J. Alexander are quick to point out that they did the fresh-meat-as-clothing bit years ago. “We already did that in cycle 10 of ‘America’s Next Top Model.’ Sorry Gaga! You know I love you. You know that you’re the true supreme artiste, but we did do a photo shoot with the girls,” Jay Manuel explained to MTV News at the G-Star’s NY RAW Special Edition fashion show in NYC on Tuesday night. The meat-centric “ANTM” episode in question saw the wannabe models wearing various cuts of meat for a photo shoot in New York City’s Meat Packing District. As for Miss J’s take on the whole thing, well, he kept it decidedly Miss J. “That’s why I have nothing to say about Miss Lady Gaga!” Miss J and Jay Manuel aren’t the only two fashionistas weighing in on the look. “The City” star Kelly Cutrone had only nice things to say about Gaga’s steak costume . “I don’t get it. What’s the beef with Gaga — Gaga is the queen of the universe, and no one should say anything negative about her or they will be attacked by her millions of fans,” she said. “I am happy to see her looking so healthy and to see she put a little extra meat on!” New York Fashion Week attendees have been all abuzz over the controversial look. “Behind the Velvet Ropes” hostess Lauren Ezersky said, “She’s cookin! In fact, she needs to cook! … I love the look of it, but I’m not quite sure if I would want to sit next to her! How would they bring that to her? Like, in a freezer!?” Related Photos VMA 2010: Lady Gaga Lookbook Related Artists Lady Gaga
