James Taylor sang the Star Spangled Banner prior to Game 2 of the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals last night. Eventually, that is. But the veteran artist initially thought he was on hand to belt out a version of “America the Beautiful,” getting a couple of words into that ode to this great nation before course-correcting and serenading fans at Fenway Park with the national anthem. James Taylor Messes Up The National Anthem It could have been a whole lot worse, of course. Taylor could have pulled a Christina Aguilera and forgotten the national anthem lyrics at the Super Bowl. Or he could have sang it like Steven Tyler . In the end, following the awkward start, Taylor did a very fine job.
A new measure that protects celebrities against the paparazzi has passed through the Hawaii state legislature and it’s all thanks to Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler. The senate passed a bill yesterday that makes it a civil violation for folks to take unwanted pictures and videos of others in their private moments. Tyler – who owns a Maui home – asked Sen. Kalani English to sponsor such a law and testified before the Senate earlier this year in support of it. The issue became personal for the 64-year-old rocker in December after photos of him and his family were published in a national magazine. Sam Slom, the Senator’s sole Republican, objected to the legislation, however, saying Hawaii already protects its citizens and this proposal violates First Amendment rights. “My final remarks to Steven Tyler as he sang so eloquently are, ‘Dream on, dream on,'” Slom joked. Okay, that’s pretty good. Other celebrities who support the bill include Britney Spears , Mick Fleetwood and the Osborne family.
With Nicki Minaj taking the Twitter fight to Steven Tyler , another random music feud has now cropped up. Following Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore recently telling Music Week that ” somebody should shoot ” Simon Cowell, The X Factor judge has fired back in a series of online digs. “I read Martin gore wants to shoot me,” Simon Tweeted yesterday. “He is in depeche mode. Do you realise how weird and stupid that makes you. Go and watch the news.” Cowell was referencing the Aurora Colorado shooting in his response, along with other recent incidents involving gun use. Gore, of course, has clarified that he was “not advocating violence,” but simply isn’t a fan of Cowell’s “influence in the music industry over the last god knows how many years.” Still, as Simon explained, he could have chosen his words far more wisely because “”a ton of people have got shot this year and people like weirdo gore encourage this.” In conclusion, the producer has sage advice for us all: “I went to a thanksgiving party and someone told me to listen rather than talk. You have two ears and one mouth. Very good advice.”

American Idol producers have come out and assured fans that all is good with the show’s judging panel . But Steven Tyler doesn’t believe the public statement was necessary… because the entire Mariah Carey vs. Nicki Mina j feud is total BS, according to the former panelist. Will you be watching the next season of American Idol ? The “American Idol” judges’ panel is now complete with the naming of singer-rapper Nicki Minaj and country crooner Keith Urban. The Fox network officially tapped the pair with an announcement Sunday, confirming rumors surrounding them both just hours before the first round of auditions for next season was due to begin in New York. The announcement also settled the status of Randy Jackson. He will stay put as the sole remaining original “Idol” judge, scotching rumors he might assume a different role on the popular talent competition. This trio will join pop star Mariah Carey at a judges’ panel now expanded to four members from its previous three. The makeup of the judges has been in flux since Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced their exits in July. Carey signed on later that month. Ryan Seacrest will remain as host when the show returns for its 12th season in January. “I am thrilled about this year’s judges panel,” said Mike Darnell, Fox president of Alternative Entertainment. “With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favorite Randy, chart-toppers like Nicki and Keith and our incomparable host Ryan, we’ve put together one of the most exciting judging panels around.” Are you feeling the new judge’s table?
