The family of the most successful woman tennis player confirmed that Sania Mirza, the Indian tennis star, will be marrying Shoaib Malik, who is a Pakistani cricketer. Malik also confirmed this in his Twitter. According to Mirza’s father, the couple will be moving to Dubai after the marriage. He also added that her daughter still plans to continue her career in tennis once she recovers fully from a wrist injury. Sania Mirza, a 24-year-old, started her tennis career in 2003. She won the 2003 Wimbeldon Championships Girl’s Doubles title, with her partner Alisa Kleybanova of Russia. She was awarded the Arjuna award by the Indian Government in 2004. However, in 2008 she received widespread criticism from Muslim religious groups. She is ranked 92 in world women’s tennis. Shoaib Malik, a 28 year-old, made his one-day international debut in 1999 against the West Indies and his Test debut in 2001 against Bangladesh. In June 2008, Malik was ranked second in the ICC ODI. He is considered as a flexible player. He has the capability of hitting big shots as well as rotating the strike with good placement. In 2010, he was given a one-year ban from the national team by PCB because he was charged of causing fight within the team. The wedding celebrations will held in both countries. The receptions are expected to be where Mirza lives which is in the Indian city of Hyderabad and also in the Pakistani city of Lahore. The wedding will be in April 2010.
