Jesus Take The Wheel: A Nurse’s Hit-And-Run Victim Brought Into The Same Hospital She Works At

A Hit-And-Run Victim Ends Up Dead At Same Hospital Of Woman Who Hit Her A nurse in Queens, New York claims she had a “weird feeling” that the ice she struck on her way to work was actually a person, but nonetheless, she never went to the cops — even after her victim died in the hospital she works at. Geum Min has been accused of slamming into a 77-year-old Jum Sim Yim just after 7 a.m. Wednesday on her way to work. She has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Yim was walking home from church when the nurse’s Toyota Corolla hit her, later dragging her body 193 feet, according to prosecutors. Min who works at nearby hospital, and kept driving before clocking in at her job–the same hospital her victim was rushed into by paramedics, and later died. Min said about the incident, “I got to work and heard about a pedestrian who was coming into the emergency room. I then learned that the pedestrian was hit on Parsons Blvd. and 32nd Ave…I remembered the bump and the thing that got stuck under my car. I had a weird feeling all day that it might have been the pedestrian.” Continue reading

Unarmed Black Carpenter Shot 8 Times By California Police Awarded $2.5 Million In Settlement

Unarmed Black Carpenter Shot 8 Times By Police Awarded $2.5 Million In Settlement via Contra Costa Times The state of California agreed Tuesday to pay $2.5 million to settle an excessive-force lawsuit filed by an African-American carpenter who was shot at least eight times by a white CHP rookie during a traffic stop. The state offered the settlement on the first day of trial in federal court, after the officer who shot James Henry Ligon Jr. in 2012 testified that Ligon stepped out of his car and charged directly at him, shouting threats. The problem with CHP officer Joe Lafauci’s account was it did not match the physical evidence in the case, said Ligon’s lawyers, Jaime Leanos and Nelson McElmurry. Ligon was shot four times in the back, suggesting he was not coming at the officer. “Officer Lafauci immediately went for his gun, unlike his more experienced partner, who got out of the patrol car without even taking out his gun,” just his Taser, McElmurry said. Lafauci had only 14 months on the job when he emptied his service pistol of 12 rounds, at least eight of which hit Ligon. Ligon, now 37, said he had stepped out of his car after leading the CHP on a high-speed chase for three miles because he couldn’t hear what the officers were yelling and to show them he was unarmed. Details surrounding what led to the high speed chase reveal that Mr. Ligon was suspected of drunk driving at the time of the incident. According to Sunnyvale police, which investigated Ligon’s shooting, Lafauci and fellow CHP officer Cory Walczak tried to stop Ligon in a gold Toyota Corolla about 1:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Ellis Street, suspecting he was driving drunk. It was later determined he had an estimated blood-alcohol level of .25-.32, at least three times above the legal limit of .08. He was on probation at the time for possession of mushrooms for sale. Ligon did not pull over and instead drove onto city streets in Sunnyvale for about three miles to the 200 block of Alturas Avenue, near where his mother lived. He was driving her car and did not want it to be impounded, Leanos said. Ligon pleaded no contest to felony evading and misdemeanor DUI charges, after prosecutors dropped a felony resisting arrest charge. This case serves as a great example for how these types of incidents SHOULD be handled. No one is advocating that people breaking the law should get off scott-free (drunk driving and evading police is certainly a punishable offense) however, police officers shooting to kill should NEVER be the first course of action without consequence when a suspect makes it clear that he is unarmed.

Amanda Bynes in ANOTHER Alleged Hit-and-Run Crash (Really)

A woman claims that troubled star Amanda Bynes rear-ended her car and then drove off without exchanging insurance info Saturday afternoon. This would be the third alleged hit-and-run of the year for AB. Kisa, whose last name has been withheld by TMZ for the time being, says she was struck by Bynes driving her Toyota Corolla on Ventura Blvd. She didn’t recognize the woman at first – because she “looked like a hot mess” – but once they began talking, realized it was Amanda Bynes. Kisa says she got out her insurance card to exchange details, as is customary in such cases, but says Bynes “seemed nervous about that.” According to her, Bynes told her the damage “didn’t look that bad” and proceeded to push her bumper back into place … which didn’t work. Bynes then said they didn’t need to exchange info since neither car was damaged – Kisa says Bynes’ car had “significant” damage to it – and peaced out. Kisa called police, who responded to the scene. Kisa says when she told the officer who hit her, the officer replied, “Didn’t she just get a DUI?” As a matter of fact, police arrested Amanda Bynes for DUI April 6 … and she was also accused of hit and run incidents on May 5 and May 27.
