Photo via Veronica Belmont There are few things out there that do a better job than the iPad at highlighting just what’s wrong with us when it comes to our gadget mentality. We love our gadgets, and they hold a lot of potential for dematerializing our lives, which means a smaller collective carbon footprint and hope for a sustainable future. But that potential only goes as far as we will take it, and from the looks of things, we aren’t wanting to dematerialize and, what’s worse, we aren’t even valuing the stuff that we put up on a pedestal as revolutionary. The iPad underscores all this with Apple reporting over 1 million sales of the first device, the launch of the 3G version which is exactly the same save for 3G connectivity and a higher price tag, and news of people doing everything from microwaving to blending to beating the device with a baseball bat. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

KFC’s Double Down Delights Customers

treehugger Kentucky Fried Chicken has introduced the now-famous and favorite Double Down Sandwich. The sample test market done has ooohhd customers and the sensation traveled out nationwide. This unique sandwich which uses no buns, is comprised of two chicken patties ’sandwich’ in the bacon, cheese and special sauce. While many that fear the Double Down’s 560-calorie ‘gutbuster’ factor are justified, it should be noted that the McDonald’s Big Mac has nearly identical health values. The restaurant chain also offers a grilled chicken version which contains fifteen percent fewer calories. Sacramento KFC visited the set of Fox 40 Live on Monday, and the votes in studio were very positive. “Oh My God, this is amazing!” exclaimed Ben Ormsby of the Fox 40 Live crew. Ormsby was most impressed by the texture of the chicken ‘bun’, adding that the sandwich can almost stand alone as a meal. The Catholic Church and Catholics around the world were outraged in 1966 when Beetles band member John Lenon said that the Beetles are more popular than Jesus. Adding that the Catholic Church will probably vanish and shrink. The Catholic Church found it in their noble hearts to finally forgive the legendary rock band, just like they forgave (and hid) those other priests who molested children. Now we’re a much better world because somewhere in heaven, Buddah, or Santa Clause, now smiles down on the Beetles as they rot in hell. But it’s all ok because God loves us all and will only condemn us to eternal damnation if we say we are more popular than him. The church added that “They may not have been the best example for the youth of the day but they were by no means the worse.
