It looks like Britney Spears just might have a brand-new Sam in her life … But let’s just hope that it has nothing to do with a pink wig, because you remember creepy old Sam Lutfi, right? Sam Ashgari, who was a dancer in Britney and Tinashe’s hot Slumber Party video , was caught out several times with the pop star and sources are now telling People that the two are in the “getting-to-know-you” stage of their relationship. We’d go ahead and say that it looks like the two got to know each other pretty well during the filming of the video, wouldn’t you say? The source revealed that the two, who met on the set of Brit’s steamy video, have only gone out on three dates so far, but one of their recent ones was to a Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles, where they may or may not have had oysters. Which, of course, have that aphrodisiac quality to them. Kind of like Slumber Party . Britney Spears Video Released: Watch, Drool Here! Previously, it was revealed that Britney wanted to date Tom Hiddleston , of all people, and reportedly got in touch with his people to set something up. “He’s definitely open to it,” a source revealed at the time, and if he was on board with Taylor Swift, he’d be crazy not to be interested in Britney. “She was his childhood crush, so never say never.” Never say never indeed — unless it’s to Taylor Swift. And you like being the subject matter of a teenage girl’s emo whining set to guitar twangs. “Britney thinks she’s got a chance, and after being with Taylor, maybe Tom wants someone a little older,” the mole reasoned. Though we’ll never know if Brom actually happened behind closed doors, what’s going on right now is way more interesting than the snooze-fest that was Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s candle in the wind relationship. The above photo features Ashgari as one lucky man in Brit’s Slumber Party video. As for Britney, her last serious relationship with Charlie Ebersol ended pretty abruptly, if you recall that. And her even longer-term relationship with Jason Trawick seemed like a sham to begin with. As far as we’re concerned, it’s high time that Britney find someone that she can rely on through good times and bad … … So long as their main accessory isn’t a fedora (here’s looking at you, Kevin Federline) and they’re not legally obligated to help Britney’s dad as a joint conservator. Britney deserves so much more than she’s been handed in the past, and if this new dude is what’s going to make her happy, then we’re going to be right there, happy the whole time, alongside her. On September 20, Charlotte, North Carolina resident Keith Lamont Scott was shot four times by police officer Brentley Vinson. Scott, a father of seven, later died of his injuries. He was 43 years old. Now, new footage showing the minutes directly before and after the shooting has been obtained and released by NBC News. Viewers should be warned that the footage is disturbing: Keith Lamont Scott Shooting Footage The voice on the video is that of Scott’s wife, Rakeyia. She can be heard repeatedly pleading with officers to not shoot. When police instruct Lamont to drop his weapon, Rakeyia informs that her husband is unarmed: “He doesn’t have a weapon, he has a TBI [traumatic brain injury], he’s not going to do anything to you guys, he just took his medicine.” A police spokesperson says Scott was holding an object that appeared to be a gun, which can be seen near his feet in photos taken after the shooting. In the days since the shooting, Charlotte has erupted in protests and riots, which have sadly resulted in more gun violence. Governor Pat McCrory has declared a state of emergency, and ordered the deployment of the Charlotte National Guard. This morning, a man named Rayquan Borum was charged with shooting a protester. Earlier this week, Scott’s family issued a statement to protesters, reading: “As a family, we respect the rights of those who wish to protest, but we ask that people protest peacefully.” “Please do not hurt people or members of law enforcement, damage property or take things that do not belong to you in the name of protesting.” Today’s developments come on the heels of news that Tulsa, Oklahoma police officer Betty Shelby has been charged with first degree manslaughter . Shelby was the officer under scrutiny for shooting Terrenece Crutcher, another unarmed black man, last week. The problem of police violence against people of color in America has drawn global attention in recent months. Spurred by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the national anthem before a preseason NFL game, players across the league have begun using their platform to protest the violence and demand action. Earlier today, Charlotte mayor Jennifer Roberts announced that there were no plans to release the video of Scott’s shooting, as she believed doing so would affect the integrity of an ongoing police investigation. “When you are still gathering eyewitness accounts, they are still talking to folks,” Roberts said in a press conference. “If you have already seen something on the Internet, it can cloud your memory, it can alter what you think you saw.” She added: “We want eyewitnesses to tell us without being led or having their memory changed by something they heard or saw.” We’ll have further updates on this story as more information becomes available.

Lonnie Thompson, a professor of earth sciences at Ohio State University, led a team of scientists drilling for ice cores atop the Puncak Jaya glacier in Papua, Indonesia. Here, their base camp sits below a massif bearing one of the upper ice fields. text size A A A September 4, 2010 Earlier this summer, a group of scientists spent two weeks in Indonesia atop a glacier called Puncak Jaya, one of the few remaining tropical glaciers in the world. They were taking samples of ice cores to study the impacts of climate change on the glacier. Lonnie Thompson, a professor of earth sciences at Ohio State University, led the team and what he witnessed shocked him: The glacier was literally melting under their feet. Thompson tells NPR's Guy Raz he has conducted 57 expeditions around the world, but this trip was unusual. It was the first one where he experienced rain on the glacier every day. “Rain is probably the most effective way to … cause the ice to melt,” Thompson says. “So this was the first time you could see the surface actually lowering around you.” While Thompson and his team were there drilling cores, he says, they witnessed the glacier drop 12 inches in just two weeks. “If that's representative of the annual ice loss on these glaciers,” he says, “you're looking at losing over seven meters of ice in a year. Unfortunately, that glacier's going to disappear in as little as five years if that rate continues.” Puncak Jaya is one of the few tropical glaciers remaining in the world, and it's especially vulnerable to climate change. This makes it especially important to researchers. “Well, it's located about 4 degrees south of the equator. It's the only glacier on western side of the Pacific warm pool, the warmest waters on earth,” Thompson says. “For looking at the history of El Nino, it's a wonderful location.” Losing the glacier wouldn't have much environmental impact for the local people, Thompson says, but it would have a deep spiritual impact. “For the tribes that live in that area, the glaciers are the head of the skull of the god and the mountains are the arms and the legs,” he says. “If they lose the glaciers then they’re going to lose part of their soul.” The Canary In The Coal Mine Just because the melting of the glacier won't have a devastating impact on Indonesia doesn't mean it should be ignored, Thompson says. Rather, it's like the canary in the coal mine — an indicator of changes in the planet's warming trends. And one that should be seen with boots on. “When we look at what's happening to the ice on the planet, we use satellites. The problem with the satellite or aerial photography is you don't see the vertical thinning that's taking place,” Thompson says. “Consequently there'll come a year in the future that there'll appear to be a glacier but it will disappear the next year because of the thinning from the top down. And to me, that's very sobering.” added by: JanforGore
