By Gil Kaufman Tone-Loc Photo: Todd Williamson/ Getty Images Three months after his arrest on weapons and domestic-violence charges, “Wild Thing” rapper Tone-Loc (born Anthony Smith) pleaded no contest to one count of possession of an assault weapon (a Colt AR-15 Sporter) and one count of corporal injury to his child’s mother. The 45-year-old Los Angeles MC, best known for late-’80s hits such as “Funky Cold Medina,” was arrested June 18 on suspicion of felony domestic violence following an alleged physical altercation with the mother of one of his children. Police did not reveal the name of the alleged victim, and Loc was released on $50,000 bail after three hours in jail. According to a release from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, Loc was sentenced to one day in county jail, three years of formal probation, 30 days of community service and 52 weeks of anger-management counseling by Burbank Superior Court Judge Patrick Hegarty. The D.A.’s office specified that the firearm was not used in the domestic assault, but that the investigation found the rapper in possession of an unregistered assault weapon. The rapper, who has dabbled in acting over the years, has recently become the subject of controversy thanks to his selection as the entertainment for Syracuse University’s upcoming Midnight Madness basketball celebration. The event, which will take place October 14, is intended to get students excited about the upcoming season.
