Tone-Loc Pleads No Contest To Domestic-Violence Charge

‘Wild Thing’ MC, also charged with possession of an assault weapon, sentenced to one day in county jail and three years of probation. By Gil Kaufman Tone-Loc Photo: Todd Williamson/ Getty Images Three months after his arrest on weapons and domestic-violence charges, “Wild Thing” rapper Tone-Loc (born Anthony Smith) pleaded no contest to one count of possession of an assault weapon (a Colt AR-15 Sporter) and one count of corporal injury to his child’s mother. The 45-year-old Los Angeles MC, best known for late-’80s hits such as “Funky Cold Medina,” was arrested June 18 on suspicion of felony domestic violence following an alleged physical altercation with the mother of one of his children. Police did not reveal the name of the alleged victim, and Loc was released on $50,000 bail after three hours in jail. According to a release from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, Loc was sentenced to one day in county jail, three years of formal probation, 30 days of community service and 52 weeks of anger-management counseling by Burbank Superior Court Judge Patrick Hegarty. The D.A.’s office specified that the firearm was not used in the domestic assault, but that the investigation found the rapper in possession of an unregistered assault weapon. The rapper, who has dabbled in acting over the years, has recently become the subject of controversy thanks to his selection as the entertainment for Syracuse University’s upcoming Midnight Madness basketball celebration. The event, which will take place October 14, is intended to get students excited about the upcoming season. But one Yahoo! sports writer complained that the Loc selection was a poor replacement for other potential headliners such as New York-bred heavyweights Jay-Z or Nicki Minaj. Related Artists Tone-Loc

Tone Loc Pleads Not Guilty To Domestic Violence Charges

Rapper was also hit with felony possession of an assault weapon charge, following alleged altercation in June. By Gil Kaufman Tone Loc Photo: Todd Williamson/ Getty Images “Wild Thing” rapper Tone Loc was in a Los Angeles courtroom on Thursday, where the 45-year-old MC (born Anthony Smith) pleaded not guilty to felony possession of an assault weapon and domestic violence charges. Loc was arrested last month for suspicion of felony domestic violence following an alleged altercation with the mother of one of his children. According to TMZ , police found an unregistered military-grade assault rifle, a semi-automatic Colt AR-15 Sporter, during their investigation into the incident on June 18. He is slated to return to court in the case on July 28. Last December, Loc was arrested for DUI, but his manager told TMZ that his client does not drink and it was a seizure that caused him to drive erratically. Best known for his gravelly voice and laid-back attitude, Loc had two best-selling singles from his 1989 debut, Loc-ed After Dark, which was followed by the less-successful 1991 disc Cool Hand Loc. After his music career cooled off, the rapper used his unmistakable voice to launch a second career as a voice-over actor and sometime movie actor, appearing in films such as “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane” and “Posse.” He’s also lent his voice to the movies “FernGully: The Last Rainforest,” “A Cool Like That Christmas” and “Titan A.E.,” as well as the TV shows “King of the Hill” and “C-Bear and Jamal.”
