The Butler Serves Up a Weekend Box Office Win

There were a gluttonous amount of new movies opening this weekend and as the dust clears this morning, it’s  The Butler that comes out on top with an impressive $25 million. That really isn’t all that surprising given  T he Butler  reviews , so the real news comes after the #1 spot.  Amazingly enough,  We’re The Millers comes in at number two with $17.7 million beating out last week’s box office winner  Elysium .  Kick-Ass 2 came in a distant fourth with $13.5 million and Ashton Kutcher’s  Jobs that had so much buzz going into the weekend, managed to only bring in $6.7 million. Sonja Morgan, who joined the Housewives franchise in the show#39;s third season, stated that she#39;s battling a “bitter” divorce with John Adams Morgan and listed $19.8 million in debt and $13.5 million in assets on her Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition. Friday Box Office: Sex Sells

If Sex and the Ctiy 2 is like the Star Wars prequels for women, does that make Sarah Jessica Parker Jar Jar Binks? The much derided sequel — and apparent terrorist training video — followed up its $14.2 million Thursday opening with $13.5 million on Friday, meaning it will easily top the box office over Memorial Day weekend. Cosmos for all! Except Jake Gyllenhaal and Jerry Bruckheimer: Prince of Persia grossed just $9.5 million on Friday, which would be good if this were Date Night . Overall, Friday ticket sales were down 20 percent from Memorial Day last year, proving once again that if the movies suck, no one will actually want to see them. Unless they’re called Sex and the City 2 . Or Shrek Forever After . The top-five after the jump.
