San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has made countless headlines for his play this NFL season, but his tattoos get plenty of “ink” as well. What’s the meaning behind the football star’s (many) tats? “The first one I got was Psalm 18:39, a scroll on my right shoulder. The verse is, ‘You arm me with strength for battle. You make my adversaries bow at my feet.'” The 25-year-old added, “Basically, it’s saying the Lord is giving me all the tools to be successful, I just have to go out and do my part to uphold that.” Kaepernick, who starred at the University of Nevada, began this season as a backup to Alex Smith, making his rise to stardom all the more captivating. The heavily-tattooed star has become a breakout hit – both personally and professionally – for his play, his swagger and yes, even his Kaepernicking . As for what ink he’ll get if the 49ers take home the Super Bowl trophy by defeating Ray Lewis and the Ravens this Sunday? “I have some in the works,” he teased. Kaepernick’s tattoo artist Nes Andrion, whose business has BOOMED since Kaepernick came off the bench to lead the 49ers offense, says he’s not done yet . “Last time we talked, when I did his entire back, we talked about maybe doing his chest,” Andrion said. As for the Kaepernick’s favorite tattoo? “He never said,” Andrion said. “I’m sure everything he put on his body has a lot of meaning to it. The lifelong Spidey fan picks which of the hero’s foes he favors. Web-slinging, wall-crawling and spider-sense aside, all of the gifts in Peter Parker’s utility belt have to come together perfectly if he’s ever to stand a chance against his adversaries … and believe us, he has many of them. In his film career alone, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has gone web to who-knows-what against the likes of Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Sandman and Venom. “The Amazing Spider-Man” adds another baddie to that storied list: the Lizard, the reptilian freak of science played by actor Rhys Ifans in the Marc Webb-directed reboot. Though Ifans and others involved with “Spider-Man” would caution you not to label Lizard as a villain — in fairness, he’s born from a good place, as his human alter-ego Doctor Curt Connor becomes the scaly menace only after attempting a revolutionary breakthrough in regenerative medicine — there’s no doubt that the clawed creature has it out for the kid swinging around Manhattan in red and blue tights. But whom will Spider-Man go up against when the inevitable “Amazing” sequel flies into theaters in 2014? Speaking with MTV News, star Andrew Garfield kept his lips sealed as far as revealing any information, but the lifelong Spidey fan was considerably more forthcoming when it came time to name his favorites of the hero’s sinister enemies. “I love all of them. I like Elektro, he’s one of the ones I’m very into,” said the actor. “I really like the [Green] Goblin, obviously, and I love Doc Ock. I think I like Doc Ock especially because of what Alfred Molina did [with the character in ‘Spider-Man 2’]. I don’t know; he made that so memorable and kind of profound, somehow.” One Spider-Man villain that Garfield has a harder time swallowing is Kraven the Hunter, the big game hunter who comes after the arachnid-friendly hero for sport. “Oh man. Kraven, that campy lion hunter,” he laughed when the villain was brought up, before finally confessing, “I like Kraven. As part of Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, Meek proves he’s a ‘Boss’ and makes his Hottest MCs in the Game debut. Meek Mill doesn’t have a solo LP on the shelf, but the Philadelphia flame spitter has made his presence felt in a variety of other ways. Thanks to “Ima Boss,” his inescapable single with Maybach Music CEO Rick Ross, Meek has maintained a deafening buzz on the streets and impacted the game like no other MC in his class. Meek Milly meets all of the criteria to be considered one of the “Hottest MCs in the Game.” His in-your-face lyrical delivery and fresh-off-the-block style have all helped earn him the #7 spot on the “VII” edition of the list. Meek started off his year right, landing a spot on XXL ‘s 2011 Freshman cover before most rap fans could even pick him out of a lineup. But those unfamiliar with Milly quickly learned who he was when Ross signed him to Maybach Music Group . And then his single “Ima Boss” began to catch fire in the streets. From the song’s opening bars, Meek separated himself from other rap rookies by putting his gangsta on full display, daring his adversaries to come for him (“They say they gon’ rob me, see me never do sh–“). With an unspecified 2012 release date on the table, look for Meek Milly’s star to rise in the coming months. “For me, Meek is that real, real street music,” MTV News editor/writer Rebecca Thomas said. “As much as I’m a Drake fan, a [Big] Sean fan, all those people, I just think there are days you wake up and you need to hear ‘Ima Boss.’ If you didn’t feel ‘Tupac Back,’ if you didn’t feel ‘Ima Boss’ all last year, you’re dead.” It wasn’t just the fans that felt Meek either. Everyone from Fabolous to Jim Jones repurposed the “Ima Boss” beat for their own freestyle needs. The omnipresent single peaked at #17 on the Billboard Rap chart, but its run in the streets and the clubs made it seem so much bigger. Mill didn’t ride just the one single, though: On “Tupac Back,” he resurrected the spirit of the fallen rap legend, and with “House Party,” from his Dreamchasers mixtape, Meek has created quite the track record. Last year alone, Meek signed a deal with Ecko Clothing to launch his own Dreamchasers line, was named one of MTV Jams’ Fab 5 artists, won MTV2’s Sucker Free’s Who Got Next award and snagged a #1 rap album with his appearance on MMG’s Self Made, Vol.1 compilation. “You need dudes like Meek to hit the reset button every now and then on the game just to let them know like, ‘Yo, this comes from the streets,’ ” said Rahman Dukes, MTV News’ director of hip-hop news. “He’s just as responsible for building that MMG Empire as Ross is.” Tune in to MTV2 on Sunday, February 19, at 10 p.m. ET/PT to catch ” MTV2 Presents: Yo!
