‘Jersey Shore’ star, who just wrapped up his own spin-off, says there is no rivalry among the cast. By Jocelyn Vena Pauly D Photo: Don’t expect there to be any tension among the “Jersey Shore” crew as they film the next season of their hit show. According to the cast, there are no hard feelings between since they fully support one another’s spin-offs. Pauly D just wrapped up his own MTV series, “The Pauly D Project,” just in time for the network to welcome “Snooki & JWoww” to its lineup. The show, which premiered Thursday, will follow the girls as they have one final fling before Snooki welcomes her first child into the world. Before it even kicked off, Mr. Delvecchio himself expressed his excitement about the show. “Oh, no way [is there any rivalry]. No way!’ he told MTV News back in April at the network’s upfront. “I’m actually dying to see their show. I want to see it ’cause we’ve all been through this together too, so were experiencing all the spin-offs together.” The love goes both ways, with the mama-to-be also agreeing that no matter what anyone in the crew does, whether it be a TV show or any other project, the “JS” family will always have one another’s backs. “Every time something happens with any of us we’re always happy for each other,” Snooki said. “We’re never like ‘Ugh, they got that.’ We’re very genuine about it.” But just because the cast only shares love, doesn’t mean that sometimes they won’t get into an argument or two . “We have a couple fights, it’s pretty amusing now that we’re over them,” JWoww told MTV News in June about her new show. “It’s just typical relationship … me and him are hotheads. We go from zero to sixty, and he’s the first boyfriend that I’ve ever had that won’t back down … Roger’s like ‘you’re out of your mind.’ You kinda saw it last season when I tried to give him sh– and he was like, ‘I don’t know who you think you’re talking to.’ ” Related Videos Snooki & JWOWW | Ep. 1 | Sorry Neighbors, Cause These Bitches Are Moving In MTV News Extended Play: Snooki And JWoww Related Photos Snooki & JWOWW | Cast Photos
‘I didn’t sing on the record at all. It just was a rap song,’ budding MC Breezy tells MTV News. By Rebecca Thomas Chris Brown Photo: When we caught up with Chris Brown last March, he was still rocking a blond crop (remember that?) and he’d just dropped what he jokingly called his “first rap video,” “Look at Me Now.” Breezy’s bars were cheeky, with allusions to yellow Lambos … among other things yellow — and surprisingly adept. Still, while featured guest Lil Wayne gave the pop&B singer a co-sign, the YMCMB captain also famously told Rolling Stone that he would stop at letting Brown spit on his own record, insisting, “I cannot have Chris Brown rapping on Tha Carter IV. ” Weezy offered this by way of explanation: “Do you know how many rappers would be like, ‘I can’t get on Tha Carter IV, but this n—a put Chris Brown on that bitch? Rapping?” Well, Chris wasn’t going to sit around waiting for a Wayne feature. Having made enough believers out of the chart-topping track, he decided to keep it coming. “I didn’t sing on the record at all. It just was a rap song,” Brown told us when he visited the MTV Newsroom last week, incidentally, hours before he found himself at the center of a bottle brawl with rapper Drake . “So I was like, ‘Cool, if they going with it, I’m gonna keep going.” Freestyles followed as Chris shored up his rap cred. And on the upcoming Fortune, he put the growth on display, teaming up again with F.A.M.E. collaborators Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa for the drum-laced “Till I Die.” But Team Breezy shouldn’t worry that Chris plans to quit crooning. Though he has the full blessing of his (initially reluctant) management team to craft sweet 16s, he’s just having a good time. “With the hip-hop and the rapping, it’s more of — I wouldn’t say [a] hobby — it’s just me expressing myself. “I’m not going to sit here and say I’m the best rapper or I’m a rapper,” he added with a big smile. “I’m just saying I could do it, I guess, if y’all like it.” How do you rate Chris’ skills as an MC? The lifelong Spidey fan picks which of the hero’s foes he favors. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Andrew Garfield in “The Amazing Spider-Man” Photo: Marvel / Columbia Pictures Spider-Man does not have it easy. Web-slinging, wall-crawling and spider-sense aside, all of the gifts in Peter Parker’s utility belt have to come together perfectly if he’s ever to stand a chance against his adversaries … and believe us, he has many of them. In his film career alone, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has gone web to who-knows-what against the likes of Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Sandman and Venom. “The Amazing Spider-Man” adds another baddie to that storied list: the Lizard, the reptilian freak of science played by actor Rhys Ifans in the Marc Webb-directed reboot. Though Ifans and others involved with “Spider-Man” would caution you not to label Lizard as a villain — in fairness, he’s born from a good place, as his human alter-ego Doctor Curt Connor becomes the scaly menace only after attempting a revolutionary breakthrough in regenerative medicine — there’s no doubt that the clawed creature has it out for the kid swinging around Manhattan in red and blue tights. But whom will Spider-Man go up against when the inevitable “Amazing” sequel flies into theaters in 2014? Speaking with MTV News, star Andrew Garfield kept his lips sealed as far as revealing any information, but the lifelong Spidey fan was considerably more forthcoming when it came time to name his favorites of the hero’s sinister enemies. “I love all of them. I like Elektro, he’s one of the ones I’m very into,” said the actor. “I really like the [Green] Goblin, obviously, and I love Doc Ock. I think I like Doc Ock especially because of what Alfred Molina did [with the character in ‘Spider-Man 2’]. I don’t know; he made that so memorable and kind of profound, somehow.” One Spider-Man villain that Garfield has a harder time swallowing is Kraven the Hunter, the big game hunter who comes after the arachnid-friendly hero for sport. “Oh man. Kraven, that campy lion hunter,” he laughed when the villain was brought up, before finally confessing, “I like Kraven. I like Kraven a lot.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Amazing Spider-Man.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Trio recorded track for Ludacris’ Ludaversal album, which drops in September. By Christina Garibaldi Usher Photo: MTV News Usher was out to make a statement with his latest album, and he seems to have achieved that. On his seventh studio effort, Looking 4 Myself , the R&B star broadened his horizons, taking a chance on some new producers, which resulted in a unique — what he calls “revolutionary pop” — sound. Teaming up with DJ/producers Swedish House Mafia and Salaam Remi, Usher enriched his genre-breaking sound on this album, especially with the artistic and sultry first single, “Climax,” produced by Diplo. “I never would have imagined that me and Diplo would have created as much incredible music as we did,” Usher recently told MTV News. “However, I felt like he could get it, and just … the nights of going through the ideas and him being very humble in his approach. To be as successful as he is musically … he’s probably one of the most humble people that I’ve ever met and will sit there — I’m talking until 6 o’clock in the morning — off a melody that we’ve been working on all day, no words, just melody, and still be patient and still come back with a very positive vibe the next day.” Usher also went back to producers he has worked with in the past including will.i.am , Rico Love and Max Martin . And with the massive success of last year’s “Without You,” many were hoping that David Guetta would collaborate on Looking 4 Myself. Well, fear not, fans, as Usher and Guetta have gone back into the studio together for what Usher promises will be another hit record. “Well, there is another crazy record, that he, I and Luda [Ludacris] worked on,” Usher said. “I can’t tell you too much about it. I’ll tell you as much as he has: It’s incredible, it’s crazy.” When we caught up with Ludacris recently at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival , he revealed that this new track will actually be featured on his upcoming album, Ludaversal , which drops in September. “That is definitely the track, absolutely,” Ludacris said. “I can’t tell you anything else, but that’s it. That’s all you need to know for now.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Usher
‘It could have been one of the most incredible records ever,’ he says of his attempt to record with Winehouse. By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by Christina Garibaldi Usher Photo: MTV News It’s one of the great R&B duets that never was. While Usher was working on his seventh studio album, Looking 4 Myself , he was determined to take fans on a musical journey and experiment with sounds he’d never explored before. So, in addition to teaming up with Diplo for the seductive lead single, “Climax,” , as well as EDM giants Swedish House Mafia, Usher said he sought out producer Salaam Remi because he was very interested in doing a song with Remi protege, Amy Winehouse , before the singer died unexpectedly died at age 27 in July 2011. “We met and we talked about it for a moment when I saw her,” Usher said of a brief sit-down with the troubled crooner to discuss the potential soul summit. “There was a few conversations that took place, but we never quite made it to it … I would have loved it.” One of those talks occurred while the unlikely duo were shopping at the ritzy London department store Selfridges. “I was shopping and she was doing some private shopping and she came out and we kind of crossed each other’s [paths] and, [I was like] ‘Is that Amy Winehouse?’ … And before you know it we talked and exchanged information and I invited her to a show … and she didn’t come.” Winehouse was out of the country at the time and sent a relative to the gig in her stead, but that missed connection has stuck with Usher to this day. “It could have been one of the most incredible records ever,” he said. “A voice like that comes once in a lifetime.” Usher still wanted to get in the studio with Remi, and though it was a hard time for the producer, the pair met in New York and worked it out. “The style and the sound that we worked, I felt would definitely compliment what he does as a producer and what I have to offer.” The story that the two explored on “Sins of My Father” was a new one for Usher, who had never spoken about his feelings for his dad in song before. “That was a hard one, but he gave me a palette that really worked.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Usher
‘The last three years of my life have been extremely experimental in style, lifestyle, in music and in fun,’ Usher tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Usher Usher ‘s seventh studio album may be titled Looking 4 Myself , but judging from the sound of his latest effort, he’s found what he’s looking for. Although the musical landscape has drastically changed over the years, unlike most artists, Usher has consistently evolved with it. He takes some risks with this album, and let’s face it: He’s earned the right to do just that. Usher has called his latest album’s sound “revolutionary pop” and that’s exactly what it is. Looking 4 Myself takes his fans on a musical journey that has the singer experimenting with different sounds and working with different producers, but at the same time sticking with what he does best — making infectious music that gets people on their feet and in the clubs. Usher himself admits that this album is unlike anything he’s done, and he recently told MTV News that he credits his life experiences as the real inspiration behind this new sound. “It is an experience that was kind of based off of the places that I’ve gone and the music that I’ve listened to, the styles that I’ve been inspired by and also some of the emotions that I’ve been able to feel,” Usher said. “You know, for me, every album should represent kind of an evolution. The last three years of my life have been extremely experimental in style, lifestyle, in music and in fun. I travel to different places, met and sat with different artists, made a lot of friends, and in doing that I created new music.” One can tell that Usher took his time with this album, meticulously picking out each beat and working with producers he’s never worked with before. He teamed up with Diplo , who produced the bold, artistic lead single, “Climax,” Swedish House Mafia and the late Amy Winehouse’s producer, Salaam Remi. Mixing these new producers with veterans like will.i.am , Max Martin and Pharrell , Usher found himself with a sound that mixes retro, electro and R&B. “I think when making this album, it was about what felt good. After I had an understanding of different styles, I began to find the music that I felt comfortable with, even though it was a little bit different,” Usher said. “I would find the melody and the emotion in it, most of the time it’s a beat, it’s a beat on the guitar or the piano, and then the melody finds its way and then the words begin to find a way. A lot of them came from travel so I thought back to where I was, kind of took my mental diary out and began to take myself back to that experience to what I think the people were experiencing or what I felt in that moment.” Looking 4 Myself drops Tuesday, June 12.
