Usher Teases ‘Incredible,’ ‘Crazy’ Collabo With David Guetta And Ludacris

Trio recorded track for Ludacris’ Ludaversal album, which drops in September. By Christina Garibaldi Usher Photo: MTV News Usher was out to make a statement with his latest album, and he seems to have achieved that. On his seventh studio effort, Looking 4 Myself , the R&B star broadened his horizons, taking a chance on some new producers, which resulted in a unique — what he calls “revolutionary pop” — sound. Teaming up with DJ/producers Swedish House Mafia and Salaam Remi, Usher enriched his genre-breaking sound on this album, especially with the artistic and sultry first single, “Climax,” produced by Diplo. “I never would have imagined that me and Diplo would have created as much incredible music as we did,” Usher recently told MTV News. “However, I felt like he could get it, and just … the nights of going through the ideas and him being very humble in his approach. To be as successful as he is musically … he’s probably one of the most humble people that I’ve ever met and will sit there — I’m talking until 6 o’clock in the morning — off a melody that we’ve been working on all day, no words, just melody, and still be patient and still come back with a very positive vibe the next day.” Usher also went back to producers he has worked with in the past including will.i.am , Rico Love and Max Martin . And with the massive success of last year’s “Without You,” many were hoping that David Guetta would collaborate on Looking 4 Myself. Well, fear not, fans, as Usher and Guetta have gone back into the studio together for what Usher promises will be another hit record. “Well, there is another crazy record, that he, I and Luda [Ludacris] worked on,” Usher said. “I can’t tell you too much about it. I’ll tell you as much as he has: It’s incredible, it’s crazy.” When we caught up with Ludacris recently at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival , he revealed that this new track will actually be featured on his upcoming album, Ludaversal , which drops in September. “That is definitely the track, absolutely,” Ludacris said. “I can’t tell you anything else, but that’s it. That’s all you need to know for now.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Usher

Black Keys Warm Up Dreary Coachella Festival Friday

Swedish House Mafia brings the beats as first day of three-day desert festival suffers uncharacteristically low temperatures and drizzle. By Mary J. DiMeglio Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach performs at the 2012 Coachella music festival Photo: Getty Images INDIO, California — On a day that had festivalgoers packing ponchos instead of sunblock and the merchandise booths no doubt sold a record number of hoodies, the uncharacteristic weather at Coachella’s Friday kickoff was no match for the heat of the Black Keys . The Akron, Ohio, guitar-and-drums blues-rock duo instantly had the crowd in their hands, opening with the “Howlin’ For You” sing-along from their 2010 commercial breakthrough, Brothers . Announced earlier this week as headliners for Lollapalooza 2012 in August, the Keys also performed Friday night at Coachella in 2011, but this year, they were promoted to top billing. The pair wailed through the Grammy-winning “Tighten Up” and “Lonely Boy.” During “Everlasting Light,” a giant disco ball descended as frontman Dan Auerbach unleashed his falsetto. Auerbach asked the crowd to wish a happy birthday to drummer Patrick Carney before ending with “I Got Mine.” Swedish House Mafia closed out the main stage, proving that some EDM has outgrown the Sahara dance tent. The masses were jumping to the beats of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, who is also playing a solo set in the Sahara on Saturday (April 14). Angello will DJ a solo set in June at Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival . “I heard there was a rumor going around that the reason it was gray and muggy earlier is because there were two Sheffield [England] bands on,” Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker quipped, referring to earlier mainstagers the Arctic Monkeys. In the Gobi tent, Frank Ocean fans swooned over his take on Coldplay’s “Strawberry Swing” and other cuts from his debut mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra. The crowd excitedly welcomed Tyler, the Creator to the stage early in the set to growl his Odd Future “Analog 2” verses. Influential Swedish hardcore band Refused expressed gratitude for their long-awaited reunion, saying, “The reason we’re playing tonight is because Coachella invited us.” Their hour-long performance, which inspired lots of head-banging and moshing, included “Coup D’Etat,” “Worms of the Senses/Faculties of the Skull,” “Tannhauser/Derive” and “New Noise.” Elsewhere, the Black Angels psychedelic blues — which included a sitar — didn’t draw nearly the crowd it deserved, Madness had the Outdoor stage skanking away and Rancid’s Tim Armstrong backed Jimmy Cliff on guitar. In response to last year’s event selling out — a week after the 2011 lineup was announced — Coachella is experimenting with featuring the same artists for two consecutive three-day weekends: April 13-15 and April 20-22. Still to come this weekend: Radiohead, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Bon Iver, Florence and the Machine, A$AP Rocky and the At the Drive-In reunion. Did you go to Coachella? Jack White Would Make A White Stripes Record ‘Right Now’

In a New York Times Magazine profile, White hints that the dynamic between him and Meg White ultimately led to the band’s demise. By James Montgomery Jack White Photo: WireImage Jack White gets deep in a New York Times Magazine feature, discussing his marriage, his children and his relationship with former wife/ White Stripes drummer Meg White (he also talks about being taught how to weld by Bob Dylan, though perhaps that’s a story for another day). For the first time since announcing the end of the Stripes last year, White talked about the dynamic that ultimately led to the band’s demise, intimating that it was Meg who didn’t want to continue making music, and that he was forced to bring the project to a close “so we can move on with our lives.” “Some people can live their whole lives in limbo,” White said. “There came a point where I said, ‘If we’re not doing this, we need to put an end to it right now.’ And that’s what she wanted to do.” When asked by writer Josh Eells why Meg no longer felt like being a part of the White Stripes, Jack responded: “You’d have to ask her. I don’t know what her reasons are. Having a conversation with Meg, you don’t really get any answers. I’m lucky that girl ever got onstage, so I’ll take what I can get. “Meg completely controlled the White Stripes,” White continued. “She’s the most stubborn person I’ve ever met, and you don’t even get to know the reasons.” Meg White declined to be interviewed for the Times piece, though Jack seemed to backtrack on claims he made to British magazine NME last month, when he said there was “absolutely no chance” he’d ever re-form the Stripes, admitting that he misses making music with Meg. “I’d make a White Stripes record right now. I’d be in the White Stripes for the rest of my life,” he said. “That band is the most challenging, important, fulfilling thing ever to happen to me. I wish it was still here. It’s something I really, really miss.” In the meantime, he’s moving on. White’s first solo album, Blunderbuss, is set to hit stores on April 24. ‘Our cameraman and one of the guys from management started to cry when they heard the song,’ Sebastian Ingrosso tells MTV News. By Akshay Bhansali Swedish House Mafia at Masquerade Motel Photo: Rukes.com Before headlining day one of Masquerade Motel Miami , Swedish House Mafia confirmed that they’re working on a follow-up single to “Greyhound.” In their three years recording together, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello have just five Swedish House Mafia singles under their belt (six if you count “Leave the World Behind,” their collaboration with Laidback Luke and Deborah Cox), so the very mention of a new SHM song is a highly anticipated event in dance-music culture. “We didn’t manage to finish that track,” Axwell revealed when we asked if the new song would make a debut at Masquerade Motel Miami. “We were trying.” “The only thing that we can say, actually,” Axwell continued, “is that we were at this amazing house in Sydney by the water, and we were trying to take in all the amazingness of Sydney. So we took out a couch … and sat in the garden with the ocean view there. And we were like, ‘OK, let’s make something that sounds how this looks.’ ” Fans of Swedish House Mafia were first clued in to some recording Down Under when the gents posted a clip online showing Ax, Seb and Steve at an Australian lab, making music and swimming in a pool with a scenic Sydney Harbour view. Fans should be tickled to know, according to the guys, that their next release seems like it will be equal parts beautiful and banging. “Our cameraman that has filmed for us and one of the guys from management started to cry when they heard the song,” Seb revealed. “So we’ll see!” Axwell said. “But it was amazing to sit there at a couch outside with our laptops and just looking out.” “That should be the new studio,” Angello chimed in. “We needed to do that for that track,” Seb said. “Because that track has been in demo state for a long time,” Ax said. “We’ve been really, like, ‘How can we finish this in the right way without making it too banging or too soft and keep all the lyrics?’ So we were on a couch on the beach finishing it. Almost.” No word yet on the new song’s official title or release date. What are you expecting from SHM’s next single? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Swedish House Mafia

Swedish House Mafia Jockey Robotic Greyhounds In New Video

SHM teams up with Absolut for futuristic video for anthemic single ‘Greyhound.’ By Akshay Bhansali Swedish House Mafia Photo: Getty Images With “Greyhound,” two powerhouse Swedish entities have teamed up on an epic music video for an absolute banger of a new single (pun intended). With just over a week before their Masquerade Motel mini-festivals hit Miami’s Grand Central Park, Swedish House Mafia have partnered with Absolut on a new song, video and grapefruit-flavored spirit. And while not all of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso’s fans may be of beverage-sampling age, their new single (which they debuted at Madison Square Garden ) now has a commendable video for all to see. “Greyhound” recalls the underground and illicit motif established in the Yakuza-inspired video for their last single, “Antidote,” except it’s a lot less violent and everyone keeps their clothes on. Set in a futuristic, “Mad Max”-like desert, the video follows fashion-forward gangs at the races. Just what is running the lengths? You guessed it: robotic greyhounds that seem to be a marriage of Voltron’s Lion Force and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s Cheetah robot . It’s probably safe to say the evil-doers in “Save the World” are somewhere thanking their lucky stars they didn’t meet these dogs in a dark alley. Jockeying the thoroughbred canines, through holographic console manipulation, are Ax, Seb and Steve, from what would seem a subterranean basement. And though it may be tough to tell from the video’s ending which pup and jockey proved victorious, Swedish House Mafia and Absolut certainly come away with a win for a compelling video for what is sure to be an EDM anthem going into Miami Music Week. “Greyhound,” SHM’s fifth single, is slated for release on March 19 here on Absolut’s Facebook page.
