Daniel Radcliffe Recalls ‘Lovely Chat’ With Darren Criss

Actors have ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business’ connections but only just met, Radcliffe tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Daniel Radcliffe Photo: MTV News For a while, it was a running joke between Daniel Radcliffe and Darren Criss that the “Harry Potter” star and “A Very Potter Musical” star had yet to meet, even though the two shared a “Potter” connection, celebrity status and Criss succeeded Radcliffe in the hit Broadway revival of “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.” MTV News recently caught up with Radcliffe, and he revealed that, at long last, the two actors finally met just before Criss took over Radcliffe’s role for a limited run. “We have met. I can confirm, we have met,” Radcliffe said with a smile. “Somebody showed me a very doctored photograph of our meeting; there were no photographs at our meeting, so if that’s what people are interested in, they’re going to be disappointed. “But no, I had a lovely chat with him, talked about the show, I don’t really deign to give advice, but I gave him my number and same with Nick Jonas and said, you know, ‘Contact me if you’ve got anything to ask. I’m always around.’ I passed on a joke to him that Matthew Broderick gave to me which Robert Morse gave to Matthew Broderick,” Radcliffe explained of an inside joke shared by Morse and Broderick, who also played the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in “How to Succeed.” “So that’s become sort of a legacy joke now, which is nice.” Criss will only be in the show for three weeks until he has to return to work on “Glee,” after which Jonas will take over January 24 through July 1. Thomas Gold Shares Completed ‘Sing2me’: MTV Exclusive!

‘I learned a lot from him,’ German DJ/producer tells MTV News of working with Swedish House Mafia’s Axwell. By Akshay Bhansali Thomas Gold Photo: MTV News Berlin’s presiding electronic artist Thomas Gold is back in the States, having just completed final production on a highly anticipated piece of music. In April, MTV News first broke the news that Gold and Swedish House Mafia icon Axwell were exchanging ideas on a house music banger, which at the time was titled “Sing to Me.” The Swedes debuted the song during their takeover of Pete Tong’s BBC Essential Mix radio show last month. Fresh off his flight from Germany, Gold stopped by MTV’s offices Thursday to announce that he’d completed his new single, and its new title is “Sing2me.” Considering his provenance alone, Thomas Gold is a powerhouse producer whose star is on the rise. His own singles, “Agora” and “Marsch, Marsch,” were put out by Steve Angello’s Size Records and Toolroom Records. Those two songs, and his recent collabo with Dirty South, “Alive,” have become house hits. His remix game this year alone has been nothing short of stellar, with official remixes for Lady Gaga ‘s “Judas” and Adele ‘s “Set Fire to the Rain.” “I remember when I got the request for the Adele track,” Gold recalled.”I was like, ‘Oh my god. Oh my god,’ because I love the original, and should I really dare to do a remix of that? But I talked to my guys and said, ‘Hey I would love to do that.’ And at the end I got so much positive feedback. The ‘Judas’ mix as well. They are both highlights of my set, and I play them all the time.” For months now, EDM fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of “Sing2me,” a project that saw Gold exchanging ideas with Axwell (the two had success earlier this year with their remix of Hard Rock Sofa & St. Brothers’ “Blow Up”) this spring and summer. After exclusively sharing the final version of the song with MTV News, he explained that though it’s been a long journey, he’s happy with how far the song has come. “I just got the final mastering done a couple of days ago, and it’s finally finished!” Gold gushed. “It was my song and I sent the idea to [Axwell] months ago. So I’ve been really working a long time. Because I had a certain idea of how the track had to be at the end. The vibe I wanted to create. How it should sound in the club. I tried many things [to get] it to where it is. I’m really happy now. “Axwell has been so supportive,” he continued. “He really loved the track when I sent the rough demo to him. We exchanged files back and forth so he could do his little tweaks. He’s a very musical producer, and this is very interesting to me because his tracks are always banging and have so much energy, but they’re still very musical. So I learned a lot from him.” “Sing2me,” does not have a confirmed drop date, but it will be released on Axwell’s Axtone imprint. If you’re in the New York area, you can catch Thomas Gold performing at Pacha NYC Friday (October 7) night. Watch Thomas Gold exclusively previewing “Sing2me” and let us know your thoughts on the song in the comments below. Related Artists Adele Lady Gaga

Swedish House Mafia To Play Madison Square Garden

Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello confirm December 16 show at famed New York arena. By Akshay Bhansali Swedish House Mafia Photo: Getty Images British dance music tastemaker Pete Tong’s Essential Mix brought official confirmation Friday (September 23) of what American fans of house music supergroup Swedish House Mafia have suspected for a few weeks now: Yes, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello are slated to take the stage at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden in December. In fact, two “One Night Stand” performances have been announced and confirmed by the Swedes’ label, EMI: December 16 at MSG and July 14, 2012, at Milton Keynes National Bowl in England. Rumblings of an epic announcement have been suspected since the group first posted a website, www.230911.com , teasing coded numbers and letters that eventually came to spell out MSG and MKB. In fact, it’s a form of underground promotion SHM has become known for: Before March’s Miami “Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand” beach party, they released a series of teaser videos online. With some of global DJ music’s biggest hits of the past couple of years under their collective belt already — “Leave the World Behind,” “One” (with Pharrell Williams) , “Miami 2 Ibiza” and “Save the World” — their MSG showing will keep in line with the way Swedish House Mafia intend to conduct business: Every undertaking aims to one-up the next. In just a year and a half, the holy trinity of house will have gone from headlining Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival to hosting their very own 15,000-strong South Beach party. And now comes the Garden. Should it be a surprise that a dance music outfit will follow in the footsteps of U2, Britney Spears, Paul McCartney, Jay-Z and the Kings of Leon? Maybe not to those in the know. But in a two-year period, it’s fair to say one of music’s most-underground genres has gone pop. Afrojack, David Guetta, RedOne and Dr. Luke have turned the radio “club,” and EDM festival attendance has skyrocketed. Dance music has never been more popular — and according to some their biggest stars, if anyone can handle the Garden, it’s “the Swedes.” “The Swedish House Mafia crew: If there is one thing you can note them for, it’s thinking outside the box,” Pete Tong said. “It’s exciting. It’s something for the people to talk about that moves the culture forward.” When MTV News caught up with Ti

Swedish House Mafia Tease Batch Of New Singles

Steve Angello tells MTV News that the famed Swedish trio just want to take a creative approach to dropping new material. By Akshay Bhansali Steve Angello Photo: Getty Images After impressive remixes of Swedish House Mafia ‘s last single, “Save the World,” by dance music acts like AN21 and Max Vangeli, Alesso, and Zedd, whose fiery mix MTV News premiered exclusively last month, the house music production trio of Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello have so far teased only two new originals this summer. And really, only one of these new gems has been well-documented, starting with Axwell spinning the dark track at Club Papaya in Croatia in July. Sure, the in-demand collective has been busy touring, but save for Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso debuting their new single “Calling” on Friday (August 12) on the BBC’s “Essential Mix” with Pete Tong, it would seem the three Swedes have devoted their summer to performing rather than hitting the studio. When MTV News caught up with Steve Angello recently, though, he told us nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Angello revealed, SHM have more than 15 songs ready to go, but the group is toying with how to release their new material. “This is the thing … we have a lot of records,” Angello confessed. “We have singles; we have all the material to make an album. But it’s like, do we want to stick with the traditional album ways or do we want to do something different? And I think, as Swedish House Mafia works, I think we do something different.” As for the aforementioned “dark” single Axwell played earlier at a live show, Angello couldn’t confirm whether it would be the trio’s next release. “It’s one of them. … It’s another record,” Angello said. “It’s pretty f—ed up, but it’s good energy!” In addition to working on their own material, fans of the three Swedes will be tickled to hear that they’ve also been producing records for two major pop stars. But, of course, they aren’t ready to reveal just who yet. “A lot of people came through this year,” Angello said. “After the success of, ‘One,’ and ‘Miami 2 Ibiza,’ we got hundreds of requests to work with people. We chose very few to work with. We’ve done some work with a very, very big artist. We’re producing [some of] another artist’s album. It’s been an amazing trip for us. I can’t tell anybody’s name yet.” While we couldn’t get names, MTV News did get another major piece of SHM scoop: Angello is also well into work on a solo album being put out through Interscope via his Size Records label. “I do have an album,” Angello revealed. “The last bit is the hard part because you have to decide what you want to do and choose what direction you want to take. I’ve finished 70 percent. I got a couple singles. I just haven’t picked ‘the one.’ ” Related Artists Swedish House Mafia Steve Angello

Exclusive: Swedish House Mafia Unleash Zedd’s ‘Save The World’ Remix

Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello and Axwell tap rising star Zedd for a remix of their current single. By Akshay Bhansali Swedish House Mafia Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Fans of Swedish House Mafia know the holy trinity of house — Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello — as not only superstar DJ/producers in their own right, but also as tastemakers in the music business, launching impressive young talent into a completely different stratosphere. In Miami, at their Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand party in March, Swedish House Mafia debuted the epic “Nillionaire” by rising electronic dance music star Alesso (signed to Ingrosso’s label, Refune), who has since gone on to have tremendous Beatport.com chart success with his “Pressure” remix (originally by Nadia Ali, Alex Kenji and Starkillers) and his remix of SHM’s latest single, “Save the World.” Now, they introduce you to Zedd , a.k.a. Anton Zaslavski. Hailing from Kaiserslautern, Germany, the 21-year-old Zedd comes from a family of musicians (his father was in several bands and played classical guitar and his mother taught him how to play piano) and began producing electronic dance music in 2009, though he also plays in a metal band called Dioramic. He began receiving EDM acclaim after winning two Beatport.com remix competitions and has had dance charting success with his singles “Autonomy,” “The Legend of Zelda” and “Anthem.” Zedd has also collabed on mixes for a few folks you may know: Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Diddy and dubstep star Skrillex. The three Swedes are unleashing Zedd’s new mix of their hit single “Save the World,” an electro house banger that has been making it into superstar DJ sets and gathering nods from some of the biggest acts in dance music. “Respect to mister @zedd for his killer Save the world tonight remix, thats the one you’ve been waiting for!” Afrojack tweeted recently. Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Masquerade Motel’ Takes Over South Beach

Thousands of fans treated to sight and sound spectacular during trio’s Miami Music Week ‘One Night Stand.’ By Akshay Bhansali and Adam Stewart Swedish House Mafia Photo: 2010 Denise Truscello MIAMI — Swedish House Mafia attempted — and executed — a spectacle of mammoth proportions on Miami’s South Beach shore on Saturday. With close to 15,000 masked fans checked in and hundreds of others watching and dancing alongside a massive tent, the house music super-group treated their fans to the nine-hour mini-festival that was “Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand.” While the three Swedes were the headliners, their supporting lineup alone was worth marveling over: Junior Sanchez, A-Trak, Armand Van Helden, Max Vangeli, AN21, Dirty South, and Pete Tong (who also emceed the event) were among the big-name performers. But when it came time for Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso to take the stage, it was clear this show would be like no other Miami has seen. The curtain dropped to reveal a massive, 40-foot structure adorned with LED screens, lights, pyro and speakers. And with the trio standing at the center of it all, the crowd exploded. Swedish House Mafia opened with their late-summer 2010 anthem, “Miami 2 Ibiza,” which was followed by “Dynamite,” a new track by Alesso, who was recently signed to Ingrosso’s Refune Record Label. Then followed the stream of new music fans had been eagerly awaiting. SHM dropped a block of fresh tunes, a highlight of which was an off-center, Arabian-style techno monster that the crowd went berserk for, as the guys danced onstage in sync with their fans. Then there was a remix of deadmau5 ‘s “Strobe.” Next was Marco V’s “Reaver” and a mash-up of Angello’s “Show Me Love” and “KNAS,” which kicked the show into overdrive, accompanied by a stunning visual display.
