Swedish House Mafia Tease Batch Of New Singles

Steve Angello tells MTV News that the famed Swedish trio just want to take a creative approach to dropping new material. By Akshay Bhansali Steve Angello Photo: Getty Images After impressive remixes of Swedish House Mafia ‘s last single, “Save the World,” by dance music acts like AN21 and Max Vangeli, Alesso, and Zedd, whose fiery mix MTV News premiered exclusively last month, the house music production trio of Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello have so far teased only two new originals this summer. And really, only one of these new gems has been well-documented, starting with Axwell spinning the dark track at Club Papaya in Croatia in July. Sure, the in-demand collective has been busy touring, but save for Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso debuting their new single “Calling” on Friday (August 12) on the BBC’s “Essential Mix” with Pete Tong, it would seem the three Swedes have devoted their summer to performing rather than hitting the studio. When MTV News caught up with Steve Angello recently, though, he told us nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Angello revealed, SHM have more than 15 songs ready to go, but the group is toying with how to release their new material. “This is the thing … we have a lot of records,” Angello confessed. “We have singles; we have all the material to make an album. But it’s like, do we want to stick with the traditional album ways or do we want to do something different? And I think, as Swedish House Mafia works, I think we do something different.” As for the aforementioned “dark” single Axwell played earlier at a live show, Angello couldn’t confirm whether it would be the trio’s next release. “It’s one of them. … It’s another record,” Angello said. “It’s pretty f—ed up, but it’s good energy!” In addition to working on their own material, fans of the three Swedes will be tickled to hear that they’ve also been producing records for two major pop stars. But, of course, they aren’t ready to reveal just who yet. “A lot of people came through this year,” Angello said. “After the success of, ‘One,’ and ‘Miami 2 Ibiza,’ we got hundreds of requests to work with people. We chose very few to work with. We’ve done some work with a very, very big artist. We’re producing [some of] another artist’s album. It’s been an amazing trip for us. I can’t tell anybody’s name yet.” While we couldn’t get names, MTV News did get another major piece of SHM scoop: Angello is also well into work on a solo album being put out through Interscope via his Size Records label. “I do have an album,” Angello revealed. “The last bit is the hard part because you have to decide what you want to do and choose what direction you want to take. I’ve finished 70 percent. I got a couple singles. I just haven’t picked ‘the one.’ ” Related Artists Swedish House Mafia Steve Angello

Steve Angello, AN21, Max Vangeli In ‘Work Mode’ On Size Matters Tour

‘[Max and AN21] are going to finish their album, I’m going to do music, and I’m going to sleep!’ Angello tells MTV News of no-nonsense tour. By Adam Stewart Steve Angello Photo: MTV News The wave of success Size Records has been riding hit the pavement last month in the form of a huge motor coach touring the country. For one of the hottest labels in dance music, the multi-city Size Matters Tour formally kicked off back on March 22 at Fontainebleau’s LIV nightclub — the first in a series of massive Miami Music Week parties at the swanky venue. But the bus didn’t truly hit the road until a week later, when all the Miami madness had subsided. Now that Steve Angello, AN21 and Max Vangeli are done frolicking in the Sunshine State, things are about to get real. “Oh, they’re going to sleep at 8 p.m.,” Angello told MTV News. “[And] they’re going to wake up at 7 [a.m.]. They’re going to run next to the bus, [and] I’m going to keep them in shape!” “I’m already scared,” Vangeli told us in a separate interview. “I’m really scared!” AN21 added. It seems as if big brother has instilled the fear of God in the youngsters, who tell us they are as far as 13 or 14 tracks into their highly anticipated album, set for completion this year. Moreover, for the first time in what seems like ages, brothers Steve and AN21 will have a chance to sit down along with Max and finish up a track that the three have been working on for some time. “We have a track that we’ve actually been working on with Steve for, like, six months — maybe even longer,” AN21 said. “It’s so hard to finish it, because he’s always on the road or working on other things or we’re always on the road, so now we have his undivided attention [for] three weeks, so we’re going to finish something.” “It’s going to be work mode,” Angello said. “[Max and AN21] are going to finish their album, I’m going to do music, and I’m going to sleep!” There’s no denying that Angello means business. But we all know how the Swedes and their pals like to have a good time, so we had to ask the man in charge if there is any chance of the bus turning into a frat house on wheels. “There’s not going to be any alcohol on the bus — whatsoever!” Angello told us with an “I’m not kidding” look. “I heard from sources that if I bring one beer on the bus, [Steve]’s kicking me off,” Vangeli confirmed. “But I’m allowed to have two beers per week,” AN21 added with a smirk. “Maybe three!” “We have a lot of stuff to do [and] to work on, so it’s good,” Max added of the rules. “It was the same way in L.A. when we were working in the studio. Everyone was like, ‘Oh, guys, come out for the night!’ [but] Steve was like, ‘You finish your work and then you go!’ ” Even though we’re certain Angello’s no-nonsense rules might be bent just a tad, the packed schedule the gang has ahead of them certainly doesn’t leave much wiggle room for anything else. Having already logged miles with stops in Orlando, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Montreal, Toronto and Vegas, the Size Matters Tour hits up the Midwest on its next leg starting Tuesday night (April 5) in Columbus, Ohio, before a West Coast stint that ultimately rounds out the U.S. leg of the tour at Coachella on April 16. And then, of course, comes their slew of European dates, which take them out toward the end of summer. There’s certainly no rest for rest for this hard-hitting crew, but for Angello, it’s a much-needed change of pace. “You know, friends are jumping on [the bus] and coming off,” he said. “Different friends are joining me in different cities. It’s going to be fun, it’s a break of airports. I just need something else!” Will you check out the Size Matters Tour when it comes to your town? Let us know in the comments below! Swedish House Mafia Make Magic With Dance-Music Smash ‘One’

Song is fastest-ever #1 on Beatport’s download charts, thanks to an early leak. By Adam Stewart Steve Angello Photo: MTV News When we last checked in with our friends Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello from Swedish House Mafia, they were hours away from unleashing a then-untitled single upon thousands and thousands of screaming fans at the Ultra Music Festival during the Winter Music Conference in Miami. Just hours after their show, a Czech house-music blog illegally posted a high-quality version of the song called “Gangster the Dog,” and on Monday, SHM officially released the single under the name “One.” “I don’t know where [the Czech blog] got [that name] from!” Steve Angello told MTV News on Thursday. “Sebastian’s dog is called Gangster, but I don’t know how they pasted his dog together with a track! It was kind of confusing, but, you know, now it’s out.” Dubbed “the hottest record in the world” by BBC DJ Zane Lowe, “One” reached the top of dance-music site Beatport’s downloads chart faster than any other song. Angello admitted that was at least partially due to the buzz drummed up by the leak. “Dirty South [a close friend of SHM] was playing the record, and somebody in Montreal recorded his set without telling him,” Angello said. “After that, we just had to release the record, because everyone was buzzing about it and there were all these clips on YouTube and file-sharing things. So we had to make a quick move and release the record, otherwise it would have been destroyed.” While Beatport declined to provide hard numbers, its vice president of marketing, Shawn Sabo, told MTV News the track went “straight to #1 after only four hours, largely due to the massive hype around the tune from Pete Tong and WMC.” Angello noted that “Leave the World Behind,” the team’s hit from last year (released under the name Axwell, Ingrosso, Angello & Laidback Luke), hit #1 on the Beatport chart “pretty quick, so when this one went straight to #1, broke the record of the quickest #1, and it’s called “One” — it’s perfect!” So what’s next for the gents Ti
