Ryan Gosling’s ‘Gangster Squad’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Gosling reunites with Emma Stone in the star-studded, Tommy gun-packed clip. By Kevin P. Sullivan Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in “Gangster Squad” Photo: Warner Bros. One of the fall’s most anticipated releases, ” Gangster Squad ,” packs an all-star cast, old-school vibe and a bunch of Tommy guns. Needless to say, we’re interested. The film from “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer just got its first trailer, so we’ve broken it down for you into these five keys scenes. “Every kingdom comes up bloody” A centerpiece of the trailer, it’s hard to miss Sean Penn even under all of that makeup. In “Gangster Squad,” Penn plays Mickey Cohen, an east coast gangster who has come to Los Angeles to become “a god.” Cohen is the ultimate evil that the Gangster Squad is going to stop at nothing to put out for good. The trailer gives lots of screen time to Penn, and when you also consider the prosthetics on his face, it’s not hard to imagine that Warner Bros. would make a Best Supporting Actor push for him come Oscar season. ‘Gangster Squad’ Trailer: Brolin and Gosling Fight Violence with Violence

There are a lot of big, attention-getting films in 2012, and one that I forget about once in a while is Gangster Squad, the film in which Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer follows the efforts of a squad of LA cops (Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie) to stop the incursion of Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : /Film Discovery Date : 10/05/2012 01:17 Number of articles : 2

Ryan Gosling: What’s Next After ‘Drive’?

Actor will reportedly reteam with director Nicolas Winding Refn for several projects including a possible ‘Logan’s Run’ remake. By Eric Ditzian Ryan Gosling Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Ryan Gosling ‘s “Drive” didn’t exactly zip away from the multiplex this weekend with a hefty box-office haul, grossing only $11 million. That’s a respectable sum for a Cannes darling — less high-octane thriller than slow-burning, tension-filled drama — that was always going to have trouble finding a mainstream audience. But we certainly haven’t heard the last of “Drive,” which remains likely to be a player come awards season, with Gosling potentially nabbing actor nods and helmer Nicolas Winding Refn looking to pick up other wins on the heels of his Cannes directing award. Gosling, for his part, will have some serious competition … from himself: The actor’s “Ides of March” is also sure to be in the mix come the fall. Whatever happens, Gosling is going to be busy from now through awards season and far, far beyond. “Ides Of March” Hitting theaters in October after a festival run this month, “Ides” features Gosling as an idealistic press secretary to a charismatic Ohio governor played by George Clooney , who also wrote and directed the project. The talent in front of and behind the camera made for a buzzy debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, but a crowded field that includes the likes of Steven Spielberg, Stephen Daldry, Woody Allen and Tate Taylor (with his sleeper hit “The Help”) leaves an uncertain awards-season path for “Ides.” “The Place Beyond The Pines” Perhaps we’ve just got “Drive” on the mind, but this project sounds strangely similar to Gosling’s latest. He stars as a motorcycle stunt driver who contemplates committing a crime to benefit his loved ones. At least he looks far different: We recently spotted Gosling on set rocking bleached blond hair and a tattoo under one eye. Costarring Rose Byrne, Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes, there’s no word yet on a release date or festival debut. “The Gangster Squad” Production on Ruben Fleischer’s (“Zombieland”) third feature kicked off earlier this month with an all-star cast in place, including Gosling, Emma Stone, Sean Penn and Josh Brolin. Set in post-World War II Los Angeles, the story focuses on the city’s battles against the infiltration of the East Coast mob. Gosling plays a member of the LAPD — a suavely dressed one at that, as some early set photos made clear. “Only God Forgives” Gosling and Refn can’t get enough of each other. Luke Evans was initially set to star in this flick about boxing and prostitution in Bangkok, but the actor had to drop out because of his commitment to the two “Hobbit” films. Gosling reportedly stepped in, with shooting expected to begin in November and an eye on a theatrical release in the second half of 2012, according to Variety . “Logan’s Run” No, seriously: Gosling and Refn can’t get enough of each other. They’re planning on a remake of this 1976 sci-fi classic, with Gosling playing the starring role of a guy living in a dystopian world where no one is allowed to live past the age of 30. The project has long been in development, with directors like Bryan Singer coming and going. Fingers crossed that Gosling and Refn can succeed where others have fallen short. Untitled Romantic Comedy You know the drill by now: Gosling and Refn, together again. Possibly. We know precious little about this project, other than Refn wants to direct, Gosling could star and both men want “Drive” costar Albert Brooks to pen the screenplay. Hey, we’ll bite. “It’s a romantic comedy set in New York, which seems like a great place to start,” Refn told the Los Angeles Times . “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” This one is pure rumor at this point, but reports have suggested Warner Bros. is looking to pair director Steven Soderbergh with a young Hollywood star for this long-gestating adaptation of the ’60s-era spy series. Gosling’s name has come up alongside those of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Alexander Skarsg

Swedish House Mafia Tease Batch Of New Singles

Steve Angello tells MTV News that the famed Swedish trio just want to take a creative approach to dropping new material. By Akshay Bhansali Steve Angello Photo: Getty Images After impressive remixes of Swedish House Mafia ‘s last single, “Save the World,” by dance music acts like AN21 and Max Vangeli, Alesso, and Zedd, whose fiery mix MTV News premiered exclusively last month, the house music production trio of Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello have so far teased only two new originals this summer. And really, only one of these new gems has been well-documented, starting with Axwell spinning the dark track at Club Papaya in Croatia in July. Sure, the in-demand collective has been busy touring, but save for Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso debuting their new single “Calling” on Friday (August 12) on the BBC’s “Essential Mix” with Pete Tong, it would seem the three Swedes have devoted their summer to performing rather than hitting the studio. When MTV News caught up with Steve Angello recently, though, he told us nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Angello revealed, SHM have more than 15 songs ready to go, but the group is toying with how to release their new material. “This is the thing … we have a lot of records,” Angello confessed. “We have singles; we have all the material to make an album. But it’s like, do we want to stick with the traditional album ways or do we want to do something different? And I think, as Swedish House Mafia works, I think we do something different.” As for the aforementioned “dark” single Axwell played earlier at a live show, Angello couldn’t confirm whether it would be the trio’s next release. “It’s one of them. … It’s another record,” Angello said. “It’s pretty f—ed up, but it’s good energy!” In addition to working on their own material, fans of the three Swedes will be tickled to hear that they’ve also been producing records for two major pop stars. But, of course, they aren’t ready to reveal just who yet. “A lot of people came through this year,” Angello said. “After the success of, ‘One,’ and ‘Miami 2 Ibiza,’ we got hundreds of requests to work with people. We chose very few to work with. We’ve done some work with a very, very big artist. We’re producing [some of] another artist’s album. It’s been an amazing trip for us. I can’t tell anybody’s name yet.” While we couldn’t get names, MTV News did get another major piece of SHM scoop: Angello is also well into work on a solo album being put out through Interscope via his Size Records label. “I do have an album,” Angello revealed. “The last bit is the hard part because you have to decide what you want to do and choose what direction you want to take. I’ve finished 70 percent. I got a couple singles. I just haven’t picked ‘the one.’ ” Related Artists Swedish House Mafia Steve Angello

VIDEO: Ruben Fleischer Explains Why He Passed on Mission: Impossible 4 for 30 Minutes or Less

After scoring a critical and commercial hit with his directorial debut, 2009’s Zombieland , director Ruben Fleischer decided to make the relatively humble crime comedy 30 Minutes or Less (in theaters Friday) as his follow-up, rather than take on some huge Hollywood work-for-hire gig like Mission: Impossible 4 , which he was once in the running to direct. And as he tells Cinema Blend, when he watched the first trailer for the Brad Bird-helmed spy sequel, he knew he’d made the right decision.

’30 Minutes Or Less’ Stars Explain Taylor Lautner’s Rumored Cameo

Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson keep the rumor going at MTV’s Sneak Peek Week. By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari Photo: MTV News Ruben Fleischer, in his directorial debut, established himself as a savvy proponent of the celebrity cameo. Midway through 2009’s “Zombieland,” Bill Murray popped up in perfect out-of-nowhere fashion to steal some scenes and leave everyone wondering, “How’d they convince a comedy legend to dress up in zombie makeup and send up his own larger-than-life persona?” And when Fleischer embarked upon his second feature, the action/comedy “30 Minutes or Less,” rumors began to swirl that the director had done it again, albeit with a far younger Hollywood player. Last summer, the Web began to buzz with word that Taylor Lautner had dropped into the Grand Rapids, Michigan set to shoot a cameo. Could it be true? When MTV News visited the set a few weeks later, Fleischer’s lips were sealed when we asked about the Twi-cameo. On Friday night (June 3), at MTV’s Sneak Peak Week presentation of “30 Minutes,” it turned out that Lautner, in fact, was not in the film. So, during the post-screening Q&A, we put the question to Fleischer and stars Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson. “He’s in it!” Ansari said. Wait, what? Did we somehow miss the most famous abs in Hollywood? “He plays a bum,” Swardson chimed in. Or not. The whole thing, it turns out, was just a rumor. “I read that somewhere. I was like, ‘I didn’t know about that,’ ” Ansari said, before reconsidering. Perhaps the suggestion that the “Twilight” star shows his face onscreen can goose the film’s box-office prospects. “Let’s start that rumor,” Ansari cracked. “People like him, right? Just say he’s in the movie. ‘That Lautner cameo is dope, man! You gotta see that movie with Taylor Lautner!’ I’m just going to say that at the MTV Movie Awards. ‘Taylor Lautner’s in “30 Minutes or Less” Good night!’ ” Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ? PSA Star Megan Fox Quits Teaching Career Before it Even Begins

A new Funny or Die video features Megan Fox and her boyfriend Brian Austin Green going to bat for the children of California. Sort of: It’s kind of a “save our teachers” meets “save our schools” meets “Arnold Schwarzenegger hates your kids” meets comedy skit meets public service announcement that F.O.D. is increasingly known for — except this one doesn’t have the hot starlet mocking herself.
