N.Y. Times Promotes DREAM Act Advocates, Who Tar Opponents as ‘Anti-Christian, Anti-Hispanic, and Anti-American’

The New York Times promoted the “DREAM Act” on Saturday with a Julia Preston article that never located a single lobbyist for stricter immigration enforcement. Instead, Preston assisted in publicizing a major administration push: “Five cabinet secretaries have made calls, held news conferences or blogged on the issue.” It didn't matter how ridiculous it sounded to border enforcers:

Libertarians fight to break cycle of battered gay voter syndrome

Like abused spouses who keep returning to their aggressors, gay voters keep handing their votes to the Democrats who abuse them. The Libertarian Party (LP) wants to break this self-destructive behavior and offers LGBT voters a better alternative. LP Chairman Mark Hinkle said, “Exit polls indicate that Democrats get over 70% of LGBT votes in federal elections. Those voters must really love the Democrats' rhetoric, because they certainly aren't seeing any action. “President Obama and the Democrats had almost a year of complete control of the federal government: the Presidency, the House, and a filibuster-proof 60 votes in the Senate. They could have repealed 'don't ask don't tell.' They could have gotten rid of the Defense of Marriage Act. But they didn't do either of those things. That's a complete and total betrayal of all the promises they made to gay and lesbian voters for years. “After a carefully orchestrated failure in the Senate, the Democrats are now blaming Republicans for blocking the repeal of 'don't ask don't tell.' Of course, three Democrats just voted against it too, including Majority Leader Harry Reid. Reid claims he voted for procedural reasons, but the whole situation seems calculated to look like they're trying to help, while making sure they don't actually help.” Unlike the Democratic and Republican Parties, the Libertarian Party believes that gays and lesbians deserve equal treatment under the law. LP Executive Director Wes Benedict added, “The Libertarian Party neither supports nor opposes gay relationships. Libertarians are black, white, young, old, straight, gay, Christian, atheist, yuppie, hippie, rich, poor, greedy, generous, eccentric and just plain average. Though their backgrounds and lifestyles are diverse, they are united on the principle of minimum government and maximum freedom.” The LP Platform states: “1.3 Personal Relationships Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government's treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships.” The Libertarian Party has 21 candidates for U.S. Senate and 170 candidates for U.S. House in the upcoming November 2010 elections. For more information, or to arrange an interview, call LP Executive Director Wes Benedict at 202-333-0008 The LP is America's third-largest political party, founded in 1971. The Libertarian Party stands for free markets and civil liberties. Stephen Colbert To Testify Before Congress On Immigration

From the Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/22/stephen-colbert-testify-congress-immigr… Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert will be testifying before Congress on Friday about immigration during a hearing called “Protecting America's Harvest.” Colbert will be appearing with United Farm Workers (UFW) President Arturo S. Rodriguez before the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law. In August, the comedian spent a day working at a corn and vegetable farm in New York state after Rodriguez appeared on his show to discuss UFW's “Take Our Jobs” campaign. The effort was intended to debunk the theory that undocumented immigrants are taking jobs away from American citizens and highlight the fact the nation's food supply is dependent on these farm workers. “Farm workers are ready to welcome citizens and legal residents who wish to replace them in the field,” said the UFW site. “We will use our knowledge and staff to help connect the unemployed with farm employers.” According to a UFW press release, since the effort launched, “more than three million people have visited the campaign web site, www.takeourjobs.org . Of those visitors, 8,600 have expressed an interest in seeking employment as farm workers. Despite the numbers, only seven people have taken the UFW up on its offer to take a job in agriculture.” The “Take our Jobs” episode covering Colbert's day in the fields will air on “The Colbert Report” tonight, Sept. 22. It will also feature an interview with Rep. Zoe Lofregn (D-Calif.) on immigration reform. On Thursday, agricultural workers will be visiting congressional offices on Capitol Hill to lobby for the AgJOBS bill, which would grant undocumented farm workers currently in the United states the right to earn legal status by continuing to work in agriculture. According to The Daily Caller, Colbert will be appearing “in character,” and some Republicans are upset that he will be at the hearing because it may “make light of a serious issue.” added by: BRAVATRAVELS
