Right, I know: There’s no way anyone can ruin Rock of Ages . After all, the Adam Shankman-directed film is based on the trashy, Tony-nominated musical (!) of the same name — the only Broadway show where a person can walk down the aisle carrying four cans of Coors Light without drawing a second glance. (Not that I know anything about that particular example.) It’s basically ruin-proof. Unless, of course, you decide to load up the supporting roles with some of the most famous stars in the world.

Since Adam Sandler already bumbled his way into a Gary Cooper role with Mr. Deeds , his remake of Frank Capra’s classic Mr. Deeds Goes to Town , it’s clear that the comedian is unfazed about tackling the work of his betters. And while Cactus Flower (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) is no unassailable masterpiece, this clunky 1969 farce feels like Feydeau when compared to Sandler’s latest atrocity , Just Go With It .

Adam Sandler, that patron saint of scathing critical responses , returns to the multiplex this weekend with bad review magnet Jennifer Aniston in Just Go With It , a romantic comedy about a plastic surgeon who lies about being married to sleep with younger women.
