The concert promoter behind Michael Jackson’s ill-fated “This Is It” tour has dropped a bid to collect their $17.5 million insurance company on the star. Why? AEG’s decision to drop its case against the insurer, Lloyds of London, comes after the firm claimed AEG hid the extent of the pop icon’s extensive health woes. Execs reportedly felt Jackson was an emotionally paralyzed mess leading up to the 50-show London gig he never ended up making; MJ died June 25, 2009. AEG says the move has nothing to do with the discovery of new emails that prove AEG had doubts about MJ’s health when it applied for the insurance policy. Lloyds had sued AEG and Michael Jackson LLC in the wake of the singer’s tragic demise to cancel the policy, claiming all parties involved were not forthright. The insurer believes that singer’s drug addiction – fueled by Dr. Conrad Murray , who was on AEG’s payroll – and poor health were common knowledge at the time. As such, they should have been disclosed, but were not. It looks like everyone’s moving on though. Lloyds says: “In exchange for AEG withdrawing its insurance claim, underwriters agreed to dismiss AEG from the case and to waive any costs recoverable from AEG.” Lloyds will continue its legal battle against Jackson’s estate, seeking “rescission of the policy due to non-disclosures of Michael Jackson’s prior drug use.” [Photo: WENN.com]
Congratulations are very much in order for Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer: the famous couple is the proud new parents to twins! Reps for the True Blood stars confirmed this afternoon that “the babies were born a few weeks early, but are in good health and both Mom and Dad are overjoyed.” The kids mark the first children for Paquin, who married her 42-year old colleague in August 2010. Moyer, meanwhile, has a daughter (Lilac, 10) and son (Billy, 12), from previous relationships. The actress and actor just wrapped Season 5 of True Blood and now have time to relax with their new additions before jumping back in to the filming. We wish them the very best!
We have an update on the love life of Demi Lovato. First, the singer and new X Factor judge sat down with E! News and denied that she’s in a relationship with Niall Horan of One Direction, even though the singers were spotted at dinner last Thursday following the MTV Video Music Awards. “There is nothing going on. Niall’s my friend,” Lovato said . “I’m just focusing on my work right now, and that’s pretty much that.” But is that pretty much it? The Daily Mail reports that Lovato dined with former flame Wilmer Valderrama at upscale restaurant El Torito in Sherman Oaks on Sunday night. Dressed in a short skirt and ankle boots, Lovato was photographed alongside the actor and serial dater, who donned a skin-tight T-shirt, jeans and sneakers. Moreover, according to witnesses, Demi and Wilmer didn’t simply eat dinner together. They wet back to the singer’s place afterward for what we can only presume was desert… of the naked variety! Pat Robertson is at it again. The controversial televangelist suggested that a caller move to Saudi Arabia, ostensibly so he can legally beat his non-submissive, disrespectful spouse. On Monday’s broadcast of his show The 700 Club , viewer Michael asked for marital advice, as his wife “has no respect for me as the head of the house.” Robertson’s take: “Well, you could become a Muslim and you could beat her.”
