Rihanna, Radiohead Pick Up O Music Award Nominations

After fans submitted new nominees, RiRi and Radiohead are in the running for O Music Awards, which stream live on June 27. By James Montgomery Rihanna Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images/DCP The O Music Awards have always been the least traditional awards show. And as if this year’s edition — which will stream live online on June 27 over the course of 24 hours … aboard a bus with the Flaming Lips behind the wheel — wasn’t already proof of that point, well, try this on for size. Thanks to fan suggestions, the O Music Awards have expanded their list of nominees, meaning that acts like Rihanna and Radiohead have picked up nods, and 30 Seconds to Mars are now tied with the Lips, Taylor Swift, Tanlines and MC Hammer (!) as the event’s most-nominated act. RiRi picked up a nom in the ( very prestigious)Best Artist With a Cameraphone category — she’s up against the likes of Justin Bieber and Kreayshawn — while Radiohead are now up for the Digital Genius Award, facing off against Gorillaz, iamamiwhoami and OK Go (to name just a few). 30 STM earned a nod for Best Online Concert Experience, which, when coupled with their Fan Army FTW nomination, means they’ll head into the awards show with a total of two noms. So far, more than 2.7 million votes have been cast in all the O Music Award categories. For a full list of nominees and to vote for your faves — including Nicki Minaj and One Direction — in each category, check out the show’s official site . The O Music Awards will stream live at OMusicAwards.com on June 27, when the Flaming Lips will board the Magical Mystery Merry Prankster Bus and attempt to break Jay-Z’s record for playing the most concerts in one 24-hour period.

O Music Awards Shoot For ‘Longest Dance Party’ Bragging Rights

55-plus-hour dance-a-thon will take place in Los Angeles on Halloween and aims to raise awareness for LGBT youth issues. By Gil Kaufman Online Music Awards Photo: MTV There’s a reason the tagline for the O Music Awards is “offbeat, outrageous, online.” And for its second edition this year, MTV’s signature online awards show will once again attempt to make history, this time by hosting the longest dance party in history . The 55-plus-hour dance-a-thon will be live-streamed at OMusicAwards.com and should wrap up just before the main show kicks off at 11:30 p.m. ET on Halloween (October 31), hopefully with a new Guinness World Record in hand. The stunt is a sequel to the record set earlier this year at the inaugural O Music Awards, where Chiddy of Chiddy Bang went deep to set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Freestyle Rap. It was also revealed on Wednesday (October 5) that after taking over the Strip in Las Vegas last time, the show will roll into Los Angeles beginning October 29, when the dance record attempt will kick off at the Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip. The dance marathon won’t just be for bragging rights, either, as it will aim to raise awareness for LGBT youth issues, especially bullying, by giving fans a chance to donate to a number of organizations during the stream. Among the groups that will benefit from the record attempt are: GLSE (the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network), It Gets Better , the Gay Straight Alliance Network (GSA), Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). Viewers will also be able to use social media to support the cause and cheer on their favorite dancers. The current record for longest dance party was achieved in October 2006 by Unique Events Limited in Ireland and began with 40 dancers, with 31 still standing after 55 hours. The second edition of the show will feature new categories courtesy of user suggestions. Among the five new user-generated categories are “Oops! I Did It Online,” in which oversharing celebs such as Sinead O’Connor and T-Pain will face off against the Game and Courtney Love; and Best Artist With a Cameraphone, which pits Demi Lovato against Justin Bieber , Young the Giant, Katy Perry , the Deftones and Shiny Toy Guns. The other new categories include Best Web Born Artist (MNDR, Odd Future, the Weeknd), Best Vintage Viral Video (Metallica, Nirvana, Notorious B.I.G., O’Connor) and Best Lyrics Video (Perry, Joe Jonas, Lenny Kravitz, Christina Perri). The O Music Awards 2 will unfold on Halloween on OMusicAwards.com , as well as MTV.com , VH1.com , CMT.com , LogoTV.com and MTVHive.com . Fans can vote for their favorites and get updates at OMusicAwards.com. Related Artists Katy Perry T-Pain Young The Giant

Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Nirvana Among O Music Award Nominees

Katy Perry, Odd Future, Demi Lovato will also face off on October 31 in categories like Oops! I Did It Online and Fan Army FTW. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage The list of nominees runs from Justin Bieber to Courtney Love, Britney Spears, Scissor Sisters, Katy Perry, Bjork, Nirvana, Dolly Parton and Snoop Dogg, and that can only mean one thing: It must be time for the O Music Awards again. When MTV launched its first-annual digital music celebration earlier this year, we promised that it would be like no other awards show, with trophies handed out before, after and during the show, as well as throughout the year. Sticking to that plan, the O Awards will return for a second round on October 31, with some of the new categories coming courtesy of user suggestions. Among the five new user-generated categories are “Oops! I Did It Online,” in which over-sharing celebs such as Sinead O’Connor and T-Pain will face off against the Game and Courtney Love; and Best Artist with a Cameraphone, which pits Demi Lovato against Bieber, Young the Giant, Katy Perry, the Deftones and Shiny Toy Guns. The other new categories include Best Web Born Artist (MNDR, Odd Future, the Weeknd), Best Vintage Viral Video (Metallica, Nirvana, Notorious B.I.G., O’Connor) and Best Lyrics Video (Perry, Joe Jonas, Lenny Kravitz, Christina Perri). Among Gaga’s two nominations are Fan Army FTW — in which she’ll square off with the followers of Bieber, Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Lovato, ICP, Adam Lambert and Tokio Hotel — and Must Follow Artist on Twitter, in which she faces Cher, Snoop Dogg, Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus and Blake Shelton. The O Music Awards will also honor a number of artists who are really good at this whole online thing, with Bjork, Chris Milk, Girl Talk and the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne vying for the Digital Genius Award. The other categories include: Best Fan Cover, Hottest Music NILF (think about it), WTF I Love This Award (online craziness), the self-explanatory Too Much Ass for TV award, Most Outrageous Tweet and Best Music Forum. There are also awards coming for Most Innovative Festival, Best Music App, Best Music Hack, Beyond the Blog and Most Addictive Social Music Service, which includes such faves as Spotify, Turntable.fm and Rdio. The first edition of the awards featured performances by Mumford & Sons, Foster the People, Lupe Fiasco, Matt & Kim and a world record freestyle by Chiddy Bang’s Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege The O Music Award’s first-time winners included Gaga (Most Innovative Artist and Must Follow Artist on Twitter), Kanye West (Best Tweet), Tokio Hotel’s Aliens (Fan Army FTW), Thirty Seconds to Mars (NSFW Music Video), Aquarium Drunkard (Best Independent Music Blog) and MJJ Fan Community (Best Fan Forum). The O Music Awards 2 will unfold on Halloween on OMUsicAwards.com , as well as MTV.com, VH1.com, CMT.com, LogoTV.com and MTVHive.com. Fans can vote for their favorites at OMUsicAwards.com.
